ELKHART LAKE, Wisconsin (August 2, 2020) ā€“ TPC Racing capped its long anticipated opening weekend in the 2020 IMSA Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge by Yokohama season with four more class top-five finishes on Sunday at Road America and a weekend of growth.

The teamā€™s results were led by Michael Levitas, who drove his No. 36 DSC Sport/Erin Levitas Foundation/TPC Racing Porsche 911 GT3 Cup to a runner-up finish in the Platinum Masters category and fifth-place overall in the 45-minute race. Levitas moved from third in class to second on lap 10, and then picked up an additional overall position following a restart with three laps remaining in the race.

Levitas was followed by Vernon McClureā€™s No. 10 Main Street Homes Porsche 911 GT3, who just missed the Platinum Masters podium with a fourth-place finish in the class. McClure started 11th and climbed to 8th overall at the checkered flag. The race was a satisfying piece of redemption for McClure, whose Saturday race ended after just one lap when an error led to contact with a competitor and ended the race.

Dan Hardee recovered from an early spin in the No. 69 Student Wireless/Drive Revolve/Method Seven/Apple Rush/Hardee Family Foundation Porsche 911 GT3, caught the field, and then spun again mid-race before settling in for a seventh-place finish in Masters Platinum.

Tom Kerr, testing a surgically repaired right knee in a race car for the first time in four months, drove his No. 74 The Vein and Vascular Institute of Tampa Bay Porsche 911 GT3 to a solid eighth-place class finish at Road America.

Efrin Castro, who collected a Gold Cup win on Saturday and started on the class pole for Sundayā€™s race, battled through an early mistake to earn fourth-place points. Castro spun on the pace lap and made contact with the wall and was forced to pit lane on lap two to change the right front tire. The TPC crew was able to change the tire quickly enough to keep Castro on the tail end of the lead lap and searching for a caution flag to give him a second chance at the field. The overall leader caught Castro and put him a lap down just one lap before the full course caution came out with 15 minutes to go in the race, effectively ending his chance to march back to a podium finish.

TPC Racing will carry the momentum from three podium finishes this weekend at Road America to Rounds Three and Four of the IMSA Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge USA by Yokohama season at VIRginia International Raceway, August 21-23.

Harris Levitas, Director of Race Operations: ā€œTPC Racing did a fantastic job this weekend. We took on a lot this year, expanded our program and the guys really took on the job and did it well. The engineering guys did a fantastic job, the crew guys did a wonderful job. We were able to deliver fast and terrific cars for all of the drivers. The drivers were able to take those cars and do extremely well. Efrin qualified on pole for both races and won the first race, and Iā€™m just beyond proud of him. Heā€™s never been able to deliver like that before, and to be able to see him do that is just fantastic. In race two, to see Vernon drive the way that he drove and reel down that top three pack in the Masters field the way that he did was just phenomenal. And to see the 76 car finish in the top-five in Masters in its first weekend with TPC, that was a big deal. It was late nights to prepare these cars, and early mornings getting to the track, and this team just does a great job day-in and day-out.ā€

Michael Levitas, Driver, No. 36 Porsche 911 GT3 Cup (Platinum Cup Masters): ā€œThat shootout at the end was absolutely awesome. I felt like I found myself and drove the car hard enough to light up the front tires and I had great grip under the back of it. I felt like that under the caution, like I had the car. I just went for it. I took the fifth-place car and I really had something for the fourth-place car during the three laps. I was really disappointed that the race ended. It was great driving hard. Iā€™ve got to thank TPC Racing. They did an amazing job on the set up. My coaches were amazing. The entire team effort, I canā€™t say enough about all of the drivers. Being in racing is all about attitude, and the vibes here are unbelievably positive. I canā€™t say enough about that.ā€

Vernon McClure, Driver, No. 10 Porsche 911 GT3 Cup (Platinum Cup Masters): ā€œIt was rough yesterday. I was disappointed that I made a mistake and it cost two of us a race. I beat myself up for a little while, but it was good to get back in the car and be calms and get it going again. By midpoint of the race, I was feeling pretty good. It was good to be back.ā€

Dan Hardee, Driver, No. 69 Porsche 911 GT3 Cup (Platinum Cup Masters): ā€œToday was a little tougher. From a spin early on, I had to battle back and caught all the way back up to the pack. I tried to work my way through, but itā€™s hard to try to come back from a spin at the beginning of a race. It was an awesome weekend, I got the Hard Charger on Saturday, and really Iā€™m the luckiest guy to have the best sponsors in IMSA and thanks to TPC for a great car and a great event.ā€

Tom Kerr, Driver, No. 74 Porsche 911 GT3 Cup (Platinum Cup Masters): ā€œI injured my knee and missed the test before this. I havenā€™t driven in four or five months, so Iā€™m off the pace right now. But I hope to get it back at the next test session and be back on pace at the next race.ā€

Efrin Castro, Driver, No. 65 Porsche 911 GT3 Cup (Gold Cup): ā€œIt was a disappointing day today. The guys worked all night to make the car perfect for me. The car was amazing and I was just way too pumped and I hit the wall. They say it happens to everyone, at least once, so I hope that will never happen to me again. Overall, we had the pace and got our first win yesterday. So Iā€™m just going to hit the reset button and move on, and my main focus is VIR.ā€

ELKHART LAKE, Wisconsin (July 30, 2020) ā€“ TPC Racing opens a long-anticipated IMSA Porsche GT3 Cup season this weekend at Road America, bringing a six-car and driver effort to the famed four-mile track. The season opens with a doubleheader after a nearly 300 day off-season, lengthened by the effects of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

Vernon McClure (No. 10 Main Street Homes Porsche GT3 Cup), Michael Levitas (No. 36 DSC Sport/Erin Levitas Foundation/TPC Racing Porsche GT3 Cup), Tom Kerr (No. 74 The Vein and Vascular Institute of Tampa Bay Porsche GT3 Cup) and Dan Hardee (No. 69 Student Wireless/Drive Revolve/Method Seven/Apple Rush/Hardee Family Foundation Porsche GT3 Cup) will all take the green flag in the Platinum Masters class, while Efrin Castro (No. 65 Fine Fare Supermarkets Porsche GT3 Cup) competes in the 2020 Gold Cup championship for TPC Racing.

The team was last together officially for the schedule opener in St. Petersburg, Florida in March, but the event was postponed following just one practice session. The Road America season opener comes after a four-month delay, with 45-minute races at 1:45 p.m. ET Saturday and 10 a.m. ET on Sunday. Both races can be seen live on IMSA.tv and as part of an NBCSN Broadcast on Tuesday, August 11 at 4 p.m. ET.

During the downtime, TPC Racing has filled the void off-track with a booming street car business, but on track has offered private test sessions available to each of its drivers.

ā€œTPC Racing is thrilled to be able to have our IMSA GT3 Cup Challenge program get back to racing,ā€ Harris Levitas, Director of Race Operations, said. ā€œDuring the downtime from actual racing since March, we have been holding as many private test events as possible to keep our drivers and team fresh going into this event as the 2020 season restarts. The majority of the drivers on our team have been able to take advantage of these testing opportunities and I think that it will really pay off.ā€

TPC Racing returns to a track where it has seen its share of success through the years, both on the professional and club racing levels. The team placed a driver on the podium in 2018, and scored a Gold Cup sweep of the doubleheader in 2016.

ā€œI think Road America will be very exciting,ā€ Levitas said. ā€œThis is a track that is very fast and also challenging which has made for close racing in the past but also races that we would not like to look back on as well. TPC Racing has had a great deal of success at Road America with many wins and podium finishes in the past, so we hope to be able to have more of this success there again. It might be July, but it is just the start of the season now and we have a long way to go in a short period of time.ā€

This yearā€™s event will have a unique feel to it, as each team member is required to follow IMSA safety protocols that include social distancing and PPE for drivers and crew members. Working closely with the sanctioning body and local officials, however, has allowed Road America to open the weekend up to spectators.

The IMSA Porsche GT3 Cup USA restarts the season with a 45-minute practice session at 9:45 a.m. CDT Friday morning in the start of a busy day, which also includes a 30-minute practice at 1:30 p.m. CDT and qualifying at 4 p.m. CDT. Saturdayā€™s first race is scheduled to go green at 12:45 p.m. CDT with the weekendā€™s second and final race on Sunday at 9 a.m. CDT.

Danny Hardee, Driver, No. 69 Porsche 911 GT3 Cup (Platinum Cup Masters): This is my third time to Road America, and I absolutely love it. Itā€™s in my top-three tracks that IMSA goes to. Iā€™m really looking forward to getting back to the track. During this summer break, Iā€™ve tripled the amount of time Iā€™ve put into the racing simulator. Iā€™ve got the full support of a variety of great sponsors, and Iā€™m looking forward to racing with my 2020 livery that is a tribute to Porscheā€™s racing heritage.

Vernon McClure, Driver, No. 10 Porsche 911 GT3 Cup (Platinum Cup Masters): Itā€™s been a while since we left St. Pete with just one practice session, so Iā€™m really looking forward to getting the season started again. Iā€™ve done some testing with the TPC Racing guys so weā€™ll get the chance to put this all to use at Road America. Wisconsin is a beautiful part of our country and I love being there. Road America is big, fast and a lot of fun. Itā€™s amazing how much speed can be carried thru the Carousel and the Kink has to be timed right. But most of all, Iā€™m looking forward to getting back behind the wheel for my 2nd season and testing myself with all of the Porsche GT3 Cup field.

Efrin Castro, Driver, No. 65 Porsche 911 GT3 Cup (Gold Cup): Itā€™s been a challenging time, and we were very uncertain about what was going to happen with racing this year. Now that weā€™re starting, Iā€™m very excited about it. Itā€™s a chance to get back to some normalcy. I love Road America. Itā€™s an amazing track. Last year, I didnā€™t do that well because I didnā€™t get comfortable enough with the track. But this year Iā€™m ready for it. I have high expectations for this weekend.

Michael Levitas, Driver, No. 36 Porsche 911 GT3 Cup (Platinum Cup Masters): We couldnā€™t be any more excited to get together as a team this weekend, first and foremost. We have a bit of brotherhood at TPC Racing. The atmosphere we have as a team, with the crew, engineers and drivers is great, and weā€™re all looking forward to the camaraderie. We know we can stay within the requirements and be safe with COVID, and still share each otherā€™s company. And beyond that, I canā€™t wait to get into the race car and go fast!

DOMINANT WEEKEND FOR TPC RACING AND DSC SPORT

With Scott Schmidt, Trevor Andrusko and Tyler Hoffman at the wheel of the TPC Racing built 991 GT3 Clubsport dominated the AER weekend at New Jersey Motorsports Park winning both 8 hour races! Harris Levitas managed the chassis setup and the car ran flawlessly all weekend during test days, 8 hours of racing on Saturday and 8 hours of racing on Sunday. The TPC Racing built 991 GT3 Clubsport chassis is so balanced that during an 8 hour race, the team was the only front running car to not pit and change tires at all during either of the races which paid off when running against high horsepower factory built GT4 cars. All three drivers drove great clean stints in both races and it was great to sweep the weekend at NJMP.
Efrin Castro proves he may just be the new king of Mid-Ohio. In a field of highly modified Porsche 991 GT3 Cup cars and Ferrari 458 and 488 Challenge cars, Castro on old Yokohama tires with a TPC Racing setup by our engineering brainchild Kelvin. Efrin led one practice session in an IMSA legal 991.1 GT3 Cup car and Levitas in the 36 991.2 ran in the front of the 4.0L class. Efrin had an amazing weekend and the team did a fantastic job with the setup. For the final sprint race of the weekend, Castro started at the back of the field and worked his way up to the front to finish ahead of all other 3.8L 991 GT3 Cup cars on track.
On another front Coby Shields wheels home consecutive wins and track records in his DSC Sport powered Gen 6 Camaro SS.
ā€œIt was an extremely successful weekend for our racing programs,ā€ TPC Racing Director of Racing Operations said. ā€œI am absolutely thrilled for Scott, Trevor and Tyler for the finish the TPC Racing built GT3 Clubsport had at NJMP in both 8 hour races. We have proven that this build is reliable and just a blast to drive. It was great to see such a nice result for Scott on his birthday weekend. Then with our IMSA GT3 Cup team attending a club event at Mid-Ohio to get testing in for the GT3 Cup race later this season, it was fantastic to see Efrin doing so well. Efrin is working so hard this year to train and our team has done a fantastic job working hard and finding the chassis setup. We have been doing a ton of testing before the official season starts back up and I think that it will really pay off in results for the drivers that have participated in the tests.ā€
ā€œWhat an amazing weekend,ā€ TPC Racing president and driver of No. 36 GT3 Cup Michael Levitas said. This is proof that when amazing people get together and use the power and might of TPC Racing plus the technology of DSC Sport, anything is possible. Many thanks to all the guys at the shop who prepped all of the cars and to Harris who pilots the race team. Itā€™s a large and varied group that we are extremely fortunate to have and be part of.ā€
