my 2012 ford transit connect, the key stopped opening the hood. i had to cut the plastic grill out of the way and remove several 8mm bolts which required an open end wrench and a deep socket. after removing everything including the bracket bolted on the underside of the hood, it will then open. i removed the lock cylinder and put everything back together without the lock. behind the lock was a plus shaped extension that goes to a plus sign shaped socket. the hood now opens like it used to but with a flat head screwdriver instead of a key.
