This Channel is designed to provide support material to students of the Wilderness Basics Course and anyone who is interested in hiking and backpacking.
The Course is a hiking, camping and backpacking course offered once a year by the San Diego chapter of the Sierra Club.
Our goal is to share our knowledge and skills in the safe enjoyment of wilderness areas and to convey a sense of responsibility for maintaining the purity and integrity of the wilderness environment.
This comprehensive course provides key information about; Map reading, Compass use, Equipment, Clothing selection, Food selection and cooking, Physical conditioning, Sanitation and lots more!
Participants are taught skills to safely enjoy the wilderness and are taught in ten lectures and are practiced in overnight outings: Car Camp, Land Navigation, Mountain and/or Desert Backpack, and Snow Camp.
This course is offered once a year in both San Diego and North County starting January 2019
