Hopefully take a look at the first Settlers game tomorrow from 1994! Or Serf City: Life is Feudal as it was originally titled! The only Settlers game I played way back when I was a kid was IV, always charming and loved the animated introduction for the game, but as a kid who only played Age of Empires, I didn't have a clue what was going on in that game! Hopefully I have more luck tomorrow!

Tomorrow we'll be taking a look at the 1993 D&D game Stronghold! It's an interesting concept, and once you get your head around the interface, pretty good fun! An odd mix of managing a party of characters, each with their own little RTS town you have to build up, all from a first person perspective like a classic dungeon crawler.

Taking a look at one of the earliest ARPGs tomorrow, ICON Quest for the Ring 1984! One could be tempted to assume a game about finding a magical gold ring is related to Tolkien's Middle Earth, but no! Apparently this game is based on a German legend Ring of the Nibelungen.
I haven't abandoned HOMM! I'm working on the next mission, it'll be a single long episode.

Something light-hearted for Friday! Drug Wars 1994, it used the REALMagic playback card. Not many games were made with this specific hardware in mind, Dragon's Lair is probably the most well known example. Apparently the 1990 Lord of the Rings RPG got a 1993 release using this technology, might have to check that out soon!

As always, pop any game suggestions below. Looking at setting up a Discord to keep track of suggested games, covered games, and games people might want to see a complete playthrough of. Will update here when it's up and running.

Tomorrow we will be taking a look at another KOEI game I'm trying for the first time, Balor of the Evil Eye! Beautiful atmosphere and graphics. One of the last KOEI games to be released on DOS, 1995, 3 years after Gemfire, lots to do in this game but hopefully I can figure out the basics!

Monday we'll be taking a look at this gem, Realms (1991)! Recommended by @TheGomilaGonzalo, it has some great pixel art, but is pretty difficult!
I might try a little test live stream tomorrow evening technology permitting.

All going well, my very first time playing Oregon Trail should be up tomorrow! We'll be looking at the DOS 1990 release, and the deluxe edition from 1992. What a rabbit hole this game is, so many releases over the years, and to think the very first version was in 1971 written on a HP 2100 and played on a teleprinter, what was essentially a smart typewriter! No screens, just print outs on paper!

Ports of Call video is finally up! Last episode for HOMM Wounded Land tomorrow, and taking a look at Warlords 1 Friday!

Want to double check people aren't seeing ads on the channel? It isn't monetized, but wondering if Youtube is now putting ads on it anyway.
I might look into the first tier of monetization that unlocks some unique features for the channel, but shouldn't put ads on the videos.
Not currently looking to and never planned to fully monetize the channel, it is just a hobby, however I'm self employed so if it ever did make a little bit of income I could spend more time/effort on the videos. I am really enjoying making them and interacting with the comments.

If I was to ever offer the channel membership feature I'd need to work out some way of offering something of value to those that joined, without making non members feel like they're missing out on something, I need to think about it.
I don't like the idea of ads on the videos, from my own experience of using Youtube and changing habits, I think it would just cause more people to click off the videos sooner! Also, I don't believe I put sufficient effort into the videos to justify having someone sit through a couple of ads to watch it.

A few people have asked about monetization/membership now so I just wanted to address it! If I do decide to do it, it has to be done in the right way.

Cheers,

Ports of Call delayed by a day, sorry! I wasn’t happy with it, the game is a bit of a rabbit hole and I wanted to do it justice. So tomorrow it is!
