One key lesson we can glean from last night’s US Presidential debate is to be mindful of what we hear since rumors can cloud our perspective. Lets proactively prioritize truth by doing our own due diligence and fact-checking.
In the age of AI I’ve found it helpful to:
1. Verify the Source: Is the information coming from a reliable, reputable source? If it's unknown or questionable, dig deeper.
2. Cross-Reference Information: Look at multiple trusted sources to see if the facts align and are consistently reported across different platforms.
3. Look for Evidence: Ensure the claims are backed up by credible data, expert opinions, or documented evidence. Be cautious of rumors without solid proof.
This is a lesson that transcends politics and also applies to workplaces, relationships, etc.

People, dogs, and cats are still perplexed.
How do rumors get started?
"They’re eating the dogs. They’re eating the cats. They’re eating the pets of the people that live there,” Donald Trump, 2024

“What happens when we don't have a vocabulary as expansive as our experience?” Brené Brown
I really enjoyed Brené Brown’s interview on the Ten Percent Happier Podcast with Dan Harris on the topics of “Boundaries, Feelings & Core Emotions.”
Some key takeaways included:
🗣️Our language shapes how we experience emotions and connect with others.
❣️When we learn to name our emotions, we gain power over them.
👥 Everyone is layered—what we see on the surface is only part of the story.
👯 Instead of comparing ourselves or assuming we know how others feel, focus on creating genuine connections.
🔌 True connection comes from recognizing and honoring other’s layers with compassion and respect.
🪜We build understanding through love and grace not through control.
📝”We have to be learners and knowers!”
〰️ “Boundaries are a prerequisite for good relationships.”

Embracing creativity and dreams! 🌟
This Barbie, dressed up by my talented five-year-old, is ready to win her gold medal at the Olympics according to her stylist.
Never underestimate the power of imagination and a child's vision which is largely influenced by what they see and also what they can envision.
Dream big, anything is possible.

I’m not a MD yet my news feed looks, feels, and sounds like we may be experiencing Public Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PPTSD). And yes, it is work related ❣️
Implicit bias exists, it is important to understand this. Sonya Massey’s family wasn’t told the truth about her death and only discovered the truth because of the footage. Deepest sympathies to Ms. Massey’s family, and friends.
This is why #equity still matters.
This is why #accountability still counts.
Sonya Massey’s Father Speaks Out lnkd.in/eu2TYG3G
🚨The Backstory: If reading this is uncomfortable imagine living it, seeing it, or never being able to forget it🚨
After confirming there wasn’t an intruder, the officers instruct Sonya Massey, 36, to check the pot on the stove (video link below).
👩🏽 Sonya grabs the pot and is standing by the sink and asks Sheriff Grayson “where are you going?”
👮♂️He replies while laughing “away from your hot steaming water.”
👩🏽 She replies “Oh, I rebuke you in the name of Jesus.”
👮♂️He says “Huh?”
👩🏽 She repeats herself verbatim
👮♂️ He starts yelling and cursing at her
👩🏽 She says “Ok, I’m sorry”
👮♂️He is heard screaming “Drop the f&$@ing pot” and fires a fatal shot seconds later that strikes Sonya in the head and proceeds with disrespectful comments and accusations about Ms. Massey.
From the footage, the officer is no where near the pot and she was following their orders to check on it.
Consider this…
How would she know she was considered a threat especially since the officer was heard laughing seconds before?
Why wasn’t what she said seen as a joke?
Would it be reasonable to presume the demons in him were aggravated by the name of Jesus?
Sonya was not aggressive and complied with officers yet and still we have to #sayhername because she is no longer alive to. My hope and prayer is that justice will be served. If the legal system fails her, her heavenly father won’t 🙏🏾
This is a sad reality many black women face, as well as black men and other marginalized communities. We are not allowed to be human.
Perspective: When I turn off a pot of boiling water I will often take it off the stove and grew up seeing women put it in the sink so her actions weren’t out of the ordinary to me. Yet this gentleman was threatened because she was holding the pot while talking to him after being instructed to do so to prevent a fire.
It is good that Sheriff Grayson is in custody and that the video has been released. Otherwise it would be too easy for the narrative, Sonya’s name, legacy, and story to be changed to villify her and protect those who were the true aggressors.
My personal litmus test for life is to ask myself, if it were me or someone in my family, would I expect the situation to be handled differently?

Despite complying with police orders, Sonya Massey, 36, tragically lost her life on July 6, 2024, near Springfield, Illinois at the hands of a police officer after calling them for a suspected “prowler” on her property. Body cam footage released this week raised questions about accountability and justice because her story like so many others is a stark reminder of the abuses of power and the excuses made to justify them.
This is why hashtag#equity still matters.

Before work today, I reflected and wrote about the reality that many of us face simply because of race. When you think about this situation, I encourage you to consider the following question as a litmus test for life, "if it were me or my family, would I expect things to be handled differently?"

“Today, July 3rd, is National CROWN Act Day. It's a day to raise awareness for men and women who wear their hair naturally or even curly. In twenty states including Florida, it is legal to discriminate against employees and students because of how they chose to wear their hair.” - CBS News
Depending on the day you may see my hair styled a different way 👩🏽🦱. Protective styling and variety is something that I’ve personally appreciated as part of my culture. I’m grateful that the conversation is happening and laws are changing so that how we choose to wear our hair won’t supersede what makes us unique and the value we bring to organizations and educational institutions.

Many inquiring minds are still pondering what a “black job” or a “hispanic job” is? If you watched last night’s US presidential debate, there were a lot of things observed and said between the candidates, President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump. This led me to think about the importance of confidence as it relates to data and information for citizens especially when making decisions about our future.
Knowing your numbers in context is crucial for several reasons.
1️⃣Credibility
2️⃣ Informed decision-making
3️⃣ Accountability
4️⃣ Comparative analysis
5️⃣Clarity
6️⃣ Increased voter confidence
