While the Business Analyst (BA) role is not explicitly defined in many Agile frameworks, BAs continue to play a critical role in ensuring project success. Below are the most common Agile frameworks and how BAs can adapt their skills to make a meaningful impact within each one.
Scrum
Iterative development, time-boxed sprints (usually 2-4 weeks), and self-organizing teams. Scrum emphasizes collaboration, continuous feedback, and iterative delivery of value.
Kanban
Visualizing workflow, limiting work in progress, and continuously improving. Teams continuously pull work items as capacity becomes available.
Extreme Programming (XP)
Customer satisfaction, simplicity, and technical excellence. Pair programming, test-driven development (TDD), and continuous integration are emphasized.
Lean Software Development
Delivering customer value by eliminating waste, increasing efficiency, and improving processes. Aims to continuously improve and maximize value delivery.
Feature-Driven Development (FDD)
Delivering features that provide business value in short iterations. Each feature is planned, designed, and built independently.
Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe)
Scaling Agile practices to large organizations. It includes multiple layers (team, program, and portfolio) to ensure alignment between strategy and execution.
Dynamic Systems Development Method (DSDM)
Delivering projects on time, within budget, and meeting defined quality standards. DSDM emphasizes clearly defined strategic goals for early benefit delivery to the business.
Crystal Clear
Lightweight and adaptable, suitable for small teams. It is centered on individuals and their interactions, as opposed to processes and tools.

Understanding the REQUIREMENT LIFE CYCLE stages allows the BA to manage requirements systematically, ensuring that nothing is overlooked. Each stage—from initial elicitation to retirement—requires different actions and considerations. With that said, here are the stages of the requirement lifecycle:
- Stated - The requirement is initially expressed by stakeholders. This is the raw, unrefined idea or need. Used to capture the initial intent or need as communicated by the stakeholders.
- Elicited - The requirement has been gathered through elicitation techniques like interviews, surveys, or workshops. Done to ensure the requirement reflects a deeper understanding of the stakeholders' needs.
- Confirmed - The requirement has been reviewed and agreed upon by stakeholders, confirming that it accurately reflects their needs. Done to ensure all parties have a common understanding of the stakeholders' needs.
- Analyzed - The stakeholders' needs are broken down to understand their implications, dependencies, and potential impact on the system. Performed to identify gaps, refine the requirement, assess feasibility, and determine the best way to represent the stakeholders' needs.
- Specified - The requirement specifications have been clearly written and decomposed in a formal document or tool. Done to provide a detailed and precise definition of the requirement for development and testing.
- Verified - The requirement has been reviewed for quality, completeness, consistency, and correctness. Performed to ensure the requirement is clear, feasible, and ready for implementation.
- Validated - The requirement has been evaluated against the original business needs and objectives, ensuring it delivers the intended value. Performed to confirm that the requirement meets the actual needs of the users and stakeholders.
- Traced - The requirement is linked to related requirements, design elements, and test cases, ensuring traceability throughout the project lifecycle. Done to maintain alignment between requirements and other project artifacts, ensuring all are covered and addressed.
- Prioritized -The requirement value has been assessed based on its importance, urgency, and impact on the project. Done to determine the order of implementation and focus on high-value requirements first.
- Approved - The requirement has received formal approval from stakeholders or a governance body, allowing it to move forward to implementation. Used to finalize the requirement as part of the project scope and to serve as a baseline to assess potential changes.
- Implemented - The requirement has been developed and integrated into the software or system. Completed to realize the requirement through coding, configuration, or system setup during development.
- Tested - The requirement has undergone testing to ensure it functions as intended and meets the acceptance criteria. Performed to validate the requirement's implementation against the specification.
- Deployed - The requirement has been deployed into the production environment and is operational. Completed to ensure the requirement is available for use in the live or production environment.
- Maintained - The requirement continues to be part of the system and may be updated, enhanced, or fixed as needed. Performed to keep the requirement relevant and functional over time.
- Retired - The requirement is no longer needed or applicable and has been formally retired from the system. Done to remove outdated or obsolete requirements from the system.

How are you using MIND MAPS??
Mind maps are a powerful tool to visualize, organize, and analyze this information in a way that is clear, concise, and efficient. Business analysts can utilize mind maps in various ways based on the specific needs of their projects and stakeholders. Here are 5 ways business analysts can use mind maps:
Requirements Mind Map -
This mind map helps capture and organize project requirements, ensuring a comprehensive understanding of what needs to be delivered. Start with a central node labeled "Project Requirements." Then, create main branches for requirement categories such as Stakeholder, Functional, Non-functional, Data, or Reporting as applicable. Break down each category into more detailed subcategories. Further expand subcategories to capture specific requirements, ensuring clarity and completeness.
Project Planning Mind Map -
This mind map visually outlines the fundamental aspects of a project. It can serve as a starting point for project management, providing a quick and comprehensive snapshot of the project details. Start with a central node labeled with the project name. Then, create main branches representing key project categories such as needs, goals, timelines, and stakeholders. Sub-branches can further break down the specifics within each of these categories.
Stakeholder Analysis Mind Map -
This mind map helps identify and analyze stakeholders, their interests, influence, and potential impact on the project. The central node could be "Stakeholder Analysis." Then, add main branches for Internal and External Stakeholders. Add sub-branches for each stakeholder, detailing their interests, influence, and relationships. Use color-coding or icons to represent positive or negative impacts.
Process Mapping Mind Map -
This map is a visual representation of business processes, illustrating the flow of activities, decision points, and interactions. Here, the central node would be the name of the over-arching process. The main branches will indicate different activities in the process. Add sub-branches for decision points, and specific interactions. Also include arrows or connectors to show the flow of the process.
SWOT Analysis Mind Map -
This is a mind map for conducting a SWOT analysis, highlighting Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats. Here, the central node would be the organization or department being investigated. Add main branches for Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats.
The sub-branches under each category list specific factors. Also, include brief descriptions of key points for each factor.
