hi i'm ferd.

my last community post aged horribly but i was able to squeeze out one video in 2023, if you haven't seen it yet please take a gander: https://youtu.be/taQYlY5y-ok
i tried making a mafumafu (jpop) song but i know nothing about music (35 min)

if you don't know what it's about, i showed it to a friend and their only feedback was that i should be studied in a psych experiment so make of that what you will

and to everyone who's watched it, thank you for over 150k views!! I said this in the pinned comment already, but the amount of comments and genuine responses and encouragement is absolutely insane so thank you so so much

other things:
- i moved up the deadline for mixing/guitar applications to February 2! everyone who applied is so incredibly talented and i am in real genuine pain trying to pick just one or two people but regardless I'll be contacting people back when the deadline closes in about 2 weeks!
check this out if you're interested: docs.google.com/document/d/1esVJ3ZA7SO4jr2Aas_QjNO…
- thanks for 40k subs!! i think i may have peaked with this so please be aware that the next videos on this channel will be exceedingly stupid (whenever they may come out, we will never know)
- belated thank you for 1M on the omniscient reader video that's bonkers

---

it's been crazy, for a year and a half there wasn't a single day where I wasn't either thinking about the "mafumafu video" or actively procrastinating working on it, and 2 weeks later I'm still trying to figure out what to do with myself lol. there's also something I wanted to clarify since I saw this mentioned in the comments - I didn't actually spend a whole year on the song, making the video itself took just as long (if not longer lmao). if I spent a full year working on just the song i would've turned into dust. disintegrated. my remains, scattered into the ocean

it also wasn't continuous; if say I spent roughly 5 months actually working on the song and the remaining time on the video (while coming back every couple months to attempt mixing before giving up), I wouldn't be able to remember what I was doing for most of it. there was so much time spent slacking off, procrastinating on editing cause I couldn't stand how long it was taking, shooting myself in the foot with perfectionism and draining away weeks, even months tweaking little details and trying to make the best, most "perfect" thing possible, even though such a thing doesn't exist. my youtube/kdrama watch hours were at an all-time high, the eta kept getting pushed back (looking back I think I thought that if a 6-minute video took 2 months to edit, a 35-min video = 3 months to edit. clearly math is also not my forte), and as the realization that 2023 was almost over finally started to kick in, my main motivator didn't really seem like hard work, passion and determination, but more of sunk-cost fallacy, hyperfixation, and last-minute panic.

but now that the algorithm has calmed down and I'm reading the comments more carefully (i think i've seen all of them now), I can't find the words to describe how grateful I am. it hasn't even really sunk in yet, the reaction to the song, the number of comments (and the thoughtfulness??? like some of yall writing essays down there i've never been so happy to read that many words in my life), and the fact that it actually reached the Japanese audience and seems to have been received just as well. it's a bit ironic considering the whole takeaway from this was supposed to be "the end result doesn't matter" but still, seeing the heartfelt reactions, the people being proud of someone they don't even know, or even just how many people were screaming for spotify, it's still amazing to me how different the same thing can look to another person - how much it can change, how something that I just wanted to get over with for the longest time could be such a wonderful thing in the eyes of some stranger on the Internet.

it's a weird thing to explain but seeing the comments saying that you were inspired or motivated by the song/video also inspires me, and reminds me of the things I was trying to say when I first wrote the lyrics and video script over a year ago, that I'd perhaps forgotten about as time went on.

so I want to say thank you again, cause no matter how many times I say it it never seems like enough.

and last thing to end this long post - remember, to quote one of the comments, the real mafumafu song was inside us all along 😌

happy new year!! and a belated thanks for 400k+ views on omniscient reader in 6 minutes! thank you for watching the only video I made in 2022 LOL

turns out my current project is taking a lot more time than I thought which led to a less-than-ideal upload schedule, but hopefully I'll be back in a few more months, maybe :' )

hope yall have a great year! for now here's a peek into my video-making process

hi folks i’m ferd, whom you may or may not be accidentally subscribed to. it’s been a hot minute since my last upload but i made a video explaining a fun little webnovel/webtoon called omniscient reader’s viewpoint in the most convoluted way possible

feel free to have a gander: https://youtu.be/pfex3Gw050A
omniscient reader's viewpoint out of context for 6 minutes

i have risen from the grave to conduct a brief viewer survey

what kind of media do you read/watch?

continuing my series where i use my life as an example of what not to do with yours, i (finally) have a new video up: how not to pick your university major https://youtu.be/2HCao1WZNgY

unfortunately my upload times are only going to get worse as one month ago i officially began employment™ as a reluctant software engineer. so back when i was still free i wanted to post at least one more video during 2021 before resigning myself to life as a 9-5 corporate slave.
so of course i waited until literally the day before the year ended to finish it

happy 2022 everybody

and to everyone submitting their college apps this season, godspeed

seasons greetings. it has been a long 3 months since i last uploaded. good news is that i’m almost done with a new video. bad news is that instead of posting said video, i’m sat here questioning its relevance and second-guessing myself at 3am.

so i’m here to collect some demographics data. if you have some time, please consider leaving a response so that i can go back to sleep in peace

how old are you?

hey. i’m ferd, the guy who hates making animatics, coming out today with another animatic. it’s another tgcf animatic, bringing my grand total of animatics to 3, which is frankly too many. so what’s different about this one?

well upon showing this video to a friend for feedback, the first line she responded with was “what the fuck did I just watch.” i too, would like to know the answer to that question. needless to say i took this as the highest form of praise so you may equate her words with a 5/5 yelp review.

how hua cheng became he xuan's fish dad, probably: https://youtu.be/BAjeYGcZ96M (no elaborate demonic planning sheets were needed this time)

hey yall
i have a new video up. my friend and i argue about soup for 9 minutes. if you’re in the mood to lose brain cells go ahead and take a look: https://youtu.be/ebeL4svyDjY
testing out a new video format hopefully it is ok

also thank you for 6k+ subs! and 100k views on my last 2 videos! what is even happening. the algorithm is a mystery

also if you are new here and are expecting some semblance of an upload schedule or any video consistency whatsoever then please brace yourself for disappointment

hi yall,
1 month after the tgcf animatic i have a new video out, a behind-the-scenes documenting the process of how i made the whole thing. nobody asked for this video and it's not directly related to tgcf but i hope you'll find it mildly interesting anyways https://youtu.be/FHUyWvjDpSE

also, memes aside, thank you so much for all the love you've given the original animatic (and for almost 2k subs!). i also plan on making more non-tgcf videos in the future so if you subscribed just from the animatic..you may want to rethink that decision
