Debojyoti was initiated into Hindustani classical music and the Sitar at an age of 7 by his father. He is the grandson of dancer-choreographer Guru Valmiki Banerjee, pioneer and propagator of the dance style Rabindranatyam. At the age of 18, he became a disciple of Pt Barun Kumar Pal, a true musician, senior and eminent artiste of Hindustani classical music, pioneer and propagator of Hansaveena, and one of the foremost disciples of Bharat Ratna Pandit Ravi Shankar. All India Radio, Delhi and an empanelled artiste under the Indian Council for Cultural Relations. Debojyoti has played in several concerts and has performed at several prominent cities such as New Delhi, Varanasi, Kolkata and Singapore (with his Guru).
Debojyoti is also a postgrad in Environmental Planning and a gold medalist from the School of Planning and Architecture, New Delhi.
