I landed a $6,000 client from a cold DM turned referral, on Linkedin!
And you can do it too. I didn't use any fancy tools or AI.
This is what happened.
At the time I was building my network here in Central Oregon, so I decided to check out the popular instagram accounts in the area.
I was able to find the owners of these accounts, and I messaged one of them. Simply admiring their goals and I asked if they would be open to having a coffee chat to learn about their opinions on the state of social media in this area.
No reply.
I didn't take it personal. I really don't expect people to respond to Cold DMs from strangers, but I still do it just in case.
6 months later... a response.
Apparently they had been going through some life changes and forgot to respond back to me.
And they said I "came to mind" when their friend asked them if they knew anyone who can shoot videos for their business.
So she shared their contact information. I had that meeting, and I worked with that client on that $6,000 project for their business.
All from a cold DM that became a referral... 6 months later!
And I know for a fact that the only reason I "came to mind" was because of all the content I had been posting during those 6 months.
So don't sleep on Linkedin. I'm assuming you aren't if you are reading this.
Good luck this week 🥳

Hey ya’ll
I wanted to start sharing more advice on how to make filmmaking a career.
I’ll continue to do tutorials, reviews and guides but I really want to help my fellow filmmakers make it in this highly competitive industry.
Let me know what you think of the first video in this series.
Cheers!

I had the incredible privilege to play a (small) part in the Bend Film Festival this year.
Helping capture photos and videos for the event was so much fun. I love the fact that we have a film community here in Bend and can't wait to participate in more of these.
I have so many photos from the event but here are a few for now.
Cheers!

Which one of these are you?
I assume most of my audience are fulltime filmmakers/content creators but I actually have no CLUE.
I definitely want to help you all out more so this will be useful to know.
If none of these are you, comment below and let me know.

So I said some factually incorrect information in a video, that is my fault.
Question, what should I do in this case? I'd love to right this wrong, and I'm unsure the best way to handle it.
Here are some of my ideas:
1. Take down the video, reedit the correction, post again.
2. Add a pinned comment or note in the description to correct the information
3. Leave the corrected information shared by this comment as a pin
4. Other
I appreciate any insights. Thank you so much!

These aren't viral growth numbers by any means but I think I could have gotten here MUCH FASTER if I just understood this one thing...
Here's the (unfortunately true) timeline of my growth on youtube ⤵️
When I was posting random videos, with no niche or target audience, I grew from 0 to 500 in 4 years! (Gross 🤮)
Then I finally decided to focus on filmmaking as a niche and went from 500 to 1,000 in 1 year. (Progress 👍)
Now with this one lesson I learned, I have gone from 1,000 to 2,500 in 9 months. (Momentum is building 📈)
The biggest lesson for me was truly finding out WHO my audience is and how to serve THEM. Since diving into that mindset head first I have seen so much growth and support.
And now I don't ever run out of content ideas, and have actually been creating a community around my passion.
Find your audience and truly find out how you can help them with your content, it doesn't have to be Youtube.
