Often, we get into a sense of routine, and we drop our guard and tend to ignore emerging hazards we perceive as inconsequential or even worse we donโt pay attention to our surroundings at all. Stay safe and take care!

๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐ is a common, seasonal health hazard in Alberta during the spring, summer, and autumn months. The hazardous ingredients of smoke include particulate matter, carbon monoxide, and chemicals.
๐ซ๐๐๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐
๐ฅThe health effects can range from eye, nose, and throat irritation to reduced lung function, bronchitis, exacerbation of asthma, and even risk of death.
๐ฅFirefighters and those with cardiovascular disease have more risk.
๐ฅThose with existing lung or heart conditions may experience worsening of symptoms (e.g. difficulty breathing).
๐ฅBeing close to fire increases exposure to carbon monoxide โ symptoms can include headache, weakness, nausea, dizziness, visual impairment, loss of consciousness, or death at high concentrations.
๐ฅParticulate matter (dust) exposure may result in irritated eyes, stuffy nose or throat, and/or coughing or difficulty breathing, especially during strenuous work.
๐ฅChemicals contained in the smoke can irritate eyes and lungs and may trigger asthma.
๐ฅChemicals in wildfire may also increase cancer risk over a lifetime.
๐ฅTraumatic events like emergencies and natural disasters can have an impact on workersโ mental health.
๐กEnsure staff are aware of, and have access to, the organizationโs employee assistance program, if there is one.

There are different psychological impacts on workers that don't work in a community setting:
- blurred work and home-life boundaries;
- feelings of isolation;
- feelings of being ignored;
- increased fatigue;
- increased anxiety from feeling unsafe
Stress from working alone can impact mental health.
You can watch the video to learn what employers and workers can do to eliminate these effects!
