50,000 subscribers! I'm so honored that all of you are here learning with me. We're halfway to a Silver play button!

Silver has an odd number of protons (47), so there's no element that's exactly half of silver, but Chromium with its 24 protons is pretty close, plus one of Chromium's stable isotopes (Cr-54) has half as many neutrons as one of Silver's stable isotopes (Ag-107). So maybe a Chromium play button is in order? Certainly something to think about.

I'm in Florence, Italy today - here (among other reasons) to pay my respects to the great astronomer for whom I named this channel. Planning to get some footage for future videos on this trip as well - stay tuned!

New video coming this weekend! Here's a little teaser: this stack of books is from my research. Any guesses on what the topic will be? Comment below!

I'm aiming to upload a bit more frequently in 2024 than I did in 2023, so keep an eye out for more to come!

Japan has a brand new island! Lying less than a mile off the coast of Iwo Jima (Ioto), this new island was formed by an erupting volcano, but researchers think it may erode into the sea if the eruption doesn't grow it further. If you want to learn more about Japan's preexisting islands, check out my video from a few months ago below! watch video on watch page

I know that most of you are here for our collective love of forgotten geography, but a lot of you are also interested in math too. I have some great news to share about the most recent math video: it's made it to the top 100 in 3Blue1Brown's SOME3 contest! (a centifinalist perhaps?)

Thanks to everyone who voted or watched the video. There's more videos on their way! And, if you haven't checked out "Unsolved Math: The No-Three-In-Line Problem" yet, you can find it here: https://youtu.be/eFlATdsDaj4 watch video on watch page

Wow, we've hit 25,000 subscribers! If all of us lived in one city, we could form the second largest city in Vermont or Malta. Thanks so much to each one of you - here's to more exploring!
