The period around the 21st of December and the 14th of January is generally considered the Northern sojourn of the Great Sun.
Today the sun also enters the Makar Rashi and both the important events are celebrated together in the vedic Hindu Sanatan societies.
It also signifies the upward evolution of the Inner self. It is generally a very great time to practice spiritual activities like Havanas, Homas or Fasting, visiting vedic temples, yoga, pranayam and most importantly, Japa of sacred Mantras and Stotras. With the Ram Mandir Pran Prathishtan around the corner it makes this Uttarayan even more significant.
