40 years ago today, on a Good Friday, a baby girl was born to a young coupleā¦their second daughter. Iāve been told severally, that I was a handful as a baby. Big appetite (if my bottle was not all the way full, I would throw it at whoever offered it to meā¦well so they say!Ā
I was born to a very simple mother, but she tells me I always wanted big earring (jerry asomade as she says they were called), and on every Sunday she had to borrow from her sisters because I wasnāt going to church otherwise.Ā
I vividly remember a pregnant lady at church asking my mum when I was about 12 if Sandra is a good name to name her baby. Mama replied āSandra deĘ it is a nice name, it means helper; and my daughter Sandra is very helpful but you have to start looking for money because this Sandra is very expensive! Letās just say Iāve always had a huge sense of imagination. You say one, and Iām already thinking 100! Having a child that reads even more than I did at her age has made me appreciate where my huge sense of imagination comes from. Fatancies de3 chaw in my head!!
My parents allowed me to flourish as a child, but thankfully, when it came time to mould and prune me, they made sure that I, just like the rest of my siblings, are raised to be respectful, kind and compassionate and above all, God fearing.Ā
Iām grateful for the great sense of family they instilled in us. Thankful for the love they made us experience and grow with. For the first 9 years of my life, it was just my sister and I. Sheās always been my protector. At school, whenever I went running my mouth and trouble beckoned, I knew I just had to run to her. Sheās always been there, helped pay my fees in secondary school with part of her student loans. One thing I know for sure when I look at how responsible she is is that Iām thankful Iām not the first born! Thankful for my two brothers and baby sister after me! Through them I got to learn what it is to make way for others, and be a good example.Ā
Iām thankful to God for the man I get to call my husband. Iām only able to share a part of me because he chooses to support me and watch me to what makes me happy. Thankful that we get to celebrate our birthdays two days apart. Well, I told you Iām a dreamer!Ā Iām thankful for the beautiful children weāve been blessed with.Ā
Thankful for my loving and supportive extended family and friends. And you all my KK fam, I appreciate your support. For me, this was a way of coping when I lost my dad. If ever I dreamt I would have this amount of people like and support what I do, I would be lying.Ā
As I am being celebrated today, I so yearn for that call from my dadā¦his very enthusiastic voice saying āhappy birthday!!! Congratulationsā But my consolation is that heās in a better placeĆ¢ā¬Ā¦ and watching over us. Trust me, those where he is will hear it about me today! And that bottle story will be told!
