Hope you're having a great Saturday so far ☀ Are you currently parenting a toddler? (Let me know in the poll below)
I wanted to share with you the message I sent my newsletter this morning 🔽
I'll paint an example scenario here for you ...
Your 20-month-old hits you with a toy train as you're playing together 🚂
Often I'll hear parents say something along these lines ...
➡️ Ouch! Trains are for playing not for hitting ... remember no hitting let's be kind.
With the hopes of this stopping their toddler from hitting 🤞
But low and behold just five minutes later they hit again.
And the parents are left feeling overwhelmed and lost on what to do 🫣
Now I get just how confusing the toddler (16-35 months) stage can be.
(This is a reason as to why I created my toddler course in the first place)
So how may I approach this situation instead?
I generally go for consistent corrective actions when it comes to toddlers.
➡️ Removing them from the fun or the fun from them for just a few minutes.
In this case the fun would be the toy train.
So I may pick it up and put it on a shelf (in eye-sight) for a few minutes.
No anger or frustration on your end ... it's about remaining calm throughout.
And then you're right back to playing with them.
The idea is that it's right in the moment and all action-based.
Because from my experience toddlers aren't listening to you ...
They're watching you 👀
And I believe it's a sign of respect to enter their world 🩷

Hope you're having a wonderful Saturday so far ☀ Did you know I have a parenting newsletter? (Let me know in the poll below)
I wanted to share with you the message I sent my newsletter this morning 🔽
I believe connecting with your kids is a crucial part of calm leadership 💛
In my opinion this looks like connecting with your kids in their world.
This may look like:
➡️ Jumping in the puddles with your toddler on a rainy day 🌧️
➡️ Kicking around a soccer ball with your kids ⚽️
➡️ Listening to your teenagers favourite music 🎧
But here's an important piece that parents often overlook ...
➡️ Are you just going through the motions?
Maybe distracted and checking your phone 📱
Constantly watching the time for when you can move onto something else ...
➡️ Or are you really present with them?
Where they can see they have your full attention 👀
And that you truly are enjoying the time with them 🩷
From my experience kids pick up on this.
And I believe it can make a world of difference for your connection with them 🌎

Hope you're having a great weekend so far ☀️
I wanted to share this message from the caption of my latest YouTube Shorts on timeouts.
I'm going to be honest here ... I hate timeouts.
How come?
I'll paint a scenario for you 🎨
Imagine if you made a mistake at work and your boss said ...
You're 36 years old so you go sit in the corner for 36 minutes.
Oh and you think about what you did while you're sitting there.
Then afterwards they give you a lecture about your mistake 😐
Think about it ... it's kind of humiliating ... right?
Maybe it's preventing you from not making that same mistake again.
But probably only out of fear of being humiliated again.
From my experience ... kids feel the same way.
They may not be able to articulate it but it's just not a good feeling.
So what do I recommend instead?
In my opinion if they are a toddler (which I consider to be 16-35 months) then I would generally use consistent corrective actions.
This is essentially removing them from the fun or the fun from them.
For kids three and older that's when I would generally use the BratBusters Behaviour Board.
Simply have a rule and a consequence.
This is covered more in the BratBusters Behaviour Board (Plus Toddler Basics) mini course which you get access to by being a part of the parenting newsletter.
It's about dealing with the bad behaviour but then focusing on the good kid.
Our goal as calm parenting leaders is to build up our kids 💛
Not shame or blame them for making a mistake.
I believe if your kids feel good about themselves then they tend to do good.
