Mormons don't drink alcohol, and when I was a child I'd ask questions during Sunday school about Jesus turning water into wine. They'd always tell me wine in the bible just meant grape juice.

Iām from Utah where over half the population is Mormon, but I myself am not religious. The pressure to convert to LDS is pretty strongā¦ my entire dadās side of the is Mormon, most of my friends are Mormonā¦

I was Mormon and very musical, and the āfunnyā one. My Mormon peers and leaders absolutely loved me and I had a lot of friends. I came out privately to my family as bisexual, and no one in my church knew. That was until I went to a school dance with a girl, and after I did, I was completely isolated. No one talked to me. No one cared when I didnāt come to church. My Mormon youth group church leader who used to love me left a letter at my house that said I was going down the wrong path and that she was very concerned for me and that satan had his grip on me. I literally lost all of my church friends overnight. That showed me how fake the friendship and support is. You have to be cookie cutter Mormon, or appear to be or else you are isolated or treated differently. I now have REAL friends who wonāt leave overnight because I literally slow danced with someone of the same sex.

I lost all of my friends at church because I was assaulted by a Mormon boy at a Mormon party. Iāve been left out of every activity, no one cares that Iāve stopped coming to class, Iāve lost every. single. Mormon friend I had. even the ones who still speak to me comfort him. Iāve gotten angry messages. SO SO many excuses for him. Iām 15. heās 18. I am being blamed. and I am hated now because I told a few of the girls my age and younger who he is VERY overly affectionate with. lol.

I'm an ex-Mormon and I just wanted to say how amazing you handled this interview Anthony. You could tell that you did your research and you made sure this was still respectful to those who are still in the church as well as letting the interviewees speak their truth. Thanks for showing Mormons that us ex-Mormons aren't bad people.

Iām an ex-Mormon and my main issue with the church is how they say that we have to aspire to be like Jesus and ālove thy neighbourā but they are some of the most judgemental people that if you do something that ābreaks the rulesā. A lot of my issues include being anti lgbtq+, if you have sex before marriage youāre a sinner. They make you feel bad for doing things like drinking tea and coffee. I felt like they wanted me to be this perfect person and Iām not perfect and Iām not what they want me to be.
