Silverchair are an Australian rock band, which formed in 1992 as Innocent Criminals in Newcastle, New South Wales, with Daniel Johns on vocals and guitars, Ben Gillies on drums, and Chris Joannou on bass guitar. The group got their big break in mid-1994 when they won a national demo competition conducted by SBS TV show Nomad and ABC radio station Triple J.

SILVERCHAIR. Like Seether, Silverchair—the "Australian Nirvana," as they were dubbed by MTV in 1995—sound almost comically similar to the band to which they are most often compared.

The kind of people who were listening to soundgarden and aic gave silverchair a hard pass. The people I knew that listened to silverchair were bandwagon jumpers, their favourite nirvana album would be unplugged, and they liked the poppiest songs. And they quickly left the scene post 1996ish. To my dying day I'll never accept silverchair as grunge.

Silverchair's musical growth was slow but steady, and 1997's Freak Show found the band still in grunge mode, with a heavy but melodic sound increasingly reminiscent of Alice in Chains. But it was 1999's Neon Ballroom that featured some more sophisticated and revealing songs: Johns wrote the single "Ana's Song (Open Fire)" about his struggles with anorexia nervosa, becoming one of

I always dug Silverchair, even though they had a Nirvana-esque sound and Vedder-like vocals in the beginning. Frogstomp and Neon Ballroom are two very solid albums. Hell, Madman from Frogstomp is still one of my favorite songs to noodle around with on my guitar. It is very similar, chord-wise, to Tool's song Triad from Lateralus.

Silverchair was known for their alternative rock music. The band's musical style has been described as "a cross between Nirvana and Pearl Jam". Silverchair's lyrics have also been compared to those of Nirvana front man Kurt Cobain. Who Wrote The Songs Of Silverchair? The songs of Silverchair were written by the band's frontman, Daniel

Silverchair didn't just sound like Nirvana, they looked like them too. The video for Tomorrow heavily emulates Teen Spirit. They even took part of their name from misspelling Nirvana's Sliver.

"Lie to Me" is another blatant Nirvana copy. Silverchair turns serious on "Cemetery," which has violins and the backing of an orchestra as Johns mopes about living in a cemetery "and I need a change."

They are the first thing to come in my mind when I focus on the term "teenager grunge" — Teen Death is the second one — and it's impressive how they could make what they did in a such young age. I mean, they could handle the dream of many teenagers. Of course, Frogstomp and Freak Show are my favourite ones from them.

Silverchair fans will go "but they were good for their age". They weren't really tbh, and furthermore I don't want to hear a band that's "good for their age" as a gimmick. I want to hear good music. Grunge music was very authentic to me, and I think it was one genre of music that didn't need a gimmick like "look at these kids
