I once watched a yt video by Koreans based in a western country (their content is often about kpop) criticize Chinese idols for "taking advantage" of Korea and its music industry. It was frustrating because this is a two-way street— Korean entertainment companies specifically sought/seek out Chinese trainees to hit the Chinese market

It's not counterintuitive at all imo. An idol = in fandom culture in South Korea, refers to a celebrity working in the field of K-pop, either as a member of a group or as a solo act. It's just a title, as we know many k-pop idols are not really "idols" per the definition of the word. Idolize = admire, revere, or love greatly or excessively.

I really hate the way kpop Stans rank idols. GENERAL. Artists have obviously always been ranked against each other or compared but I really dislike the way kpop Stan's especially on tiktok do it. For official content I expect the company to provide english subtitles but for fan service from an idol it's too idealistic to think that they can speak english well enough or they have the time to learn english.
