The auctioneer is just a way to keep the score. It would've been fine if house 3 were last on the auction order but houses 1 & 2 were next to go. Once the auctioneer revealed the reserve for house 3, than everyone knew what the reserves were for the other 2. House 1 would've made way more if they went 2nd.
