Later in the winter (February), I bought 700x35 studded tires and switched to 47-21. With the studded tires and the short gearing my bike was an absolute beast. Completely unstoppable. I would highly recommend it. If you are planning on riding a bike during the winter, a single speed or fixed gear with lots of tire clearance is amazing.

I love riding in the winter! I live far north with plenty of snow and ice, and I've been riding almost every day for the past 5 winters. It's as easy as throwing some fat studded tires on your bike and of you go! Once you get the hang of it, it's as safe as riding on dry tarmac.
