Yamaha Reface CS. Yamaha had one of the finest sounding VA engines around in 1997's AN1X (that still stands up today) and it's great to see Yamaha making synths once again. The Reface CS is built into the same high-quality plastic enclosure as its Reface brothers, but this time it's white - it's also lightweight yet weighty enough to feel sturdy.

Yamaha Reface Series - Sound On Sound

Published November 2015. Yamaha's Reface range recreates four of their classic instruments in miniature form. Marking the last of the Japanese giants willing to plunder their vault of past glories, Yamaha's Reface range hits the ground running with a quartet of models. Each has a 're-imagined interface' and all are streamlined, focused

Yamaha Reface CS Review (2023): Real Review (with Sound!)

The Yamaha Reface CS is an affordable, tabletop synthesizer that's designed to recapture the sound of the old Yamaha CS series, notably the CS-80 and CS-5. I've owned my Reface CS for around 3 years. It was one of the first synths that I bought. During this time, I've used it regularly for both practice and recording.

In the 50 years since Yamaha entered the electronic keyboard market, they've rocked the industry many times over. In 1966, they kicked it off with a series of transistor organs. In the '70s, they released the CP series of electro-acoustic pianos and the CS-80, a programmable analog polysynth that's coveted and imitated to this day.

With reface CS, unlike the DX you don't get obvious preset sounds to start with - more guides in the form of oscillator structures, and all part of a very clever and fast synthesis engine which I quickly grew to like. You start with one of these waveform combinations at the Osc section - as close as you're going to get to a preset sound.

Yamaha Reface CS Review - A Powerful, Menu-Free Minisynth

Yamaha Reface CS. At the 2015 Summer NAMM Show: Yamaha introduced its new Reface Mobile Mini Keyboards line.. The Reface keyboard line was inspired by the form factor of the Yamaha CS-01, a mini synth that featured a built-in speaker. The new keyboards use a similar form factor, but have sound engines designed to recall four different Yamaha keyboard lines.

The CS is the analog-style synth of the bunch. I'm going to warn you right now, I loved every single one of the reface keyboards, and I'm pretty excited about them all. I'll try to reign in the exclamation points but… wow!!! (see, that was only 3 and I wanted to put 5.) Watch this video overview of the Yamaha Reface CS here:

The cs is fantastic. If you are a decent programmer, it has plenty to keep you entertained. Call full compass and ask for the real price and it should be 270 plus tax brand new. It also is battery powered with silly little speakers. Great for jamming out between bottle sessions.

Fab Four The reface launch comprises the DX, a mini keyboard containing classic 80s synth and keyboard sounds (and more as we shall hear); the CS is another synth, this time analogue in nature and based on that most legendary Control Synthesizer engine; then you get the CP, an electric piano mini keyboard; and finally the YC which completes the range with organ sounds and controls.

What do you guys think about the Yamaha REFACE CS?

As you learn, the cs will become more versatile. It holds up extremely well. It is fun like a toy, but it is not a toy. It takes batteries and that is invaluable for jamming before sleep. Get some good rechargeable ones and jam out every night with headphones. Also make crazy noises. The delay is insane.

Yeah, it's part of my ever-evolving "sound tower" project, where I'm trying to make a road-worthy modular live/recording rig.
