Hi chaps. Thought it was about time I staked my claim in this group build. So, I got this kit recently, with a view to a straight build. Got bored with the idea of all that white. After checking out the good general melchett's build thread ( an invaluable guide to taming this wild kit) I found a

God that poor plane is never gonna live it down, decades with the Blue Angles and this is its legacy. ... Amazing aircraft, nice build, incredible technology even to this day! Riding on its own shock wave at M3.0 for lift!!! ... I had the awesome experience of walking under the XB-70 back around 1990, before the displays were changed. Massive

Here you can see how the internals of the wings were constructed: spars and wing formers were cut from foam board and glued to the inside of the wing to establish the curves of the Valkyrie's airfoil. Once folded over, much in the same way as our far smaller FT designs, the wing takes shape. Just like the real XB-70, this model features folding

The XB-70 was the world's largest experimental aircraft. It was capable of flight at speeds of three times the speed of sound (roughly 2,000 miles per hour) at altitudes of 70,000 feet.

The XB-70 was positioned as a launch vehicle for the North American X-15 spaceplane, a manned, rocket-powered aircraft that flew at Mach 6.7. Launched from an XB-70 mothership at Mach 3, the

The North American Aviation XB-70 Valkyrie is a retired prototype version of the planned B-70 nuclear-armed, deep-penetration supersonic strategic bomber for the United States Air Force Strategic Air Command.Designed in the late 1950s by North American Aviation (NAA) to replace the aging B-52 Stratofortress and B-58 Hustler, the six-engined, delta-winged Valkyrie could cruise for thousands of

The two XB-70s had logged just 1 hour and 48 minutes of Mach 3 flight, while an SR-71 could do this in a single flight. Consequently, NASA decided that XB-70 testing would come to an end. The 83rd and last XB-70 flight occurred on 4 February 1969, when the Valkyrie made a subsonic structural dynamics test and ferry flight.

The Xb-70 Valkyrie was a true masterpiece of design and engineering. With its distinctive delta wing shape and six powerful engines, it was capable of reaching speeds of Mach 3. In an era when most military aircraft were subsonic, the Xb-70's supersonic capabilities were groundbreaking. Its ability to fly at such high speeds allowed it to cover

As you may have seen, Mid7Night has recently started an impressive XB-70 build here. Coincidentally, I have been planning an extremely similar build to his for the past month or so. My goal is to build a 1/20 scale (9.45 foot) XB-70 with 4 EDFs and retracts with a total AUW under 4.5kg (10 lbs) out of mostly DTFB. Electronics _____

There were rumors of a new XB-70-ish plane being spotted in the late 90s/early 2000s. Theory was that it was the high altitude launch platform for a smaller hypersonic reconnaissance aircraft. Google "Brilliant Buzzard" - someone even got a distant blurry pic of it next to the big hangar at Groom Lake. Reply reply.
