There's been countless threads about the parallels between the two. TLAD is kind of tucked away in the GTA series and even for a mini-story DLC it's overlooked in favour of TBOGT, but TLAD really is one of my favourite stories by Rockstar, it showed that they were not afraid to go for an even more bitter ending than GTA 4 already had.

The truth is it is a western GTA and you can argue how it is more mature or caters to a different audience or the pacing and tone is different sure all true as we would expect it to be different when we call it a western GTA.
