Throughout the movie Neil was portrayed as a bright, intelligent, caring and full-of-life young man. So that heartbreakingly tragic scene felt so sudden. My take on it is that Neil had so much pain and emotional burden in his heart that he didn't want to put up with it anymore. His one description of feeling trapped encapsulates it all.

Edited by. "Dead Poets Society" is a collection of pious platitudes masquerading as a courageous stand in favor of something: doing your own thing, I think. It's about an inspirational, unconventional English teacher and his students at "the best prep school in America" and how he challenges them to question conventional views by such

Parents need to know that Dead Poets Society has very uplifting messages especially for teens about seizing the day and embracing poetry as a way toward thinking for yourself and positive self-expression. But it also deals with the suicide of one of the main characters (the gunshot isn't shown, but the parents are shown holding their son afterward, hysterical).

I believe this film is the best because of the powerful messages it provides about life, love, and standing up for yourself and what you believe in. As an English major who is obsessed with poetry and the words of American authors in particular, I am in love with this movie because of its inclusion of many quotes from individuals like Walt

A more in-depth character study of him and the motivations behind his attitudes would have helped to clarify some things; namely why exactly he was so vehemently opposed to his son's dream of being a playwright. That's something that should have really been explored because not only is it incredibly important, but it runs deep; a concept that not many parents can truly give a good account for.

Dead Poets Society really captures everything wrong with the education system and those unquestionable obligations put forth by parents or authority. At the very start of the film we are introduced to the four pillars of the highly prestigious school that just about make me sick. They are: tradition, honor, discipline, and excellence.

If everybody chose suicide whenever we came across a major obstable, we'd see dead bodies everywhere. Neil didn't appear to understand he could choose his own destiny when he became financially independent. Instead, he acted as if his life was finished so he didn't want to live. I didn't get it.

Being a romantic is wildly unrealistic in real life but films are idealized versions of reality so they're allowed to have lofty ideas about art and poetry and how much of a priority they should be. I don't think the film has aged that much, but maybe you have aged and your views have changed. 1. Award.

It's that The Dead Poet's Society is terribly shallow, and the way the young men "find themselves" is shallow as well. The point shouldn't be to fall in love with yourself, which is shallow navel-gazing that leads nowhere, but to be challenged to engage with the world in a real and creative way, to be excellent, to think well, and to gain real
