Darksiders is a game series that likes to experiment. It's had a Zelda-like, a Diablo-like, and a God-of-War-like, so of course it would have a Souls-like. But while it takes inspiration from Dark Souls, it arguably perfects it by making it more user-friendly and straightforward.. It features many of the same gameplay styles of Dark Souls games, yet features enough originality to make it stand out on its own. While Dark Souls games tend to favor more tactical and cautious gameplay, Bloodborne 's aggression is turned up to 10. Gameplay is much faster, more fluid, and tends to make the whole plot a bit more tense as a whole.

I'm a casual gamer myself and I found it very satisfying. I love games with atmosphere and Dark Souls has that by the bucket loads. You do feel like a vulnerable, insignificant speck for much of the game (especially in the early stages) but this feeling is what helps add to the mysteriousness and danger of the world - there are places you can't go, not by artificial boundaries such as

The struggle in dark souls has always been one of the core themes of the story as well as the glue that binds this community. There's really no point to playing dark souls other than that struggle. The combat mechanics are nothing special (except that every nuance matters) and the story is non-existant without digging through item descriptions.

For those who haven't played it, Lords Of The Fallen it plays pretty similarly to a Dark Souls game, with a mediaeval setting, brutally challenging enemies/bosses and some wild interactions, like a giant frog you can play music to. Just a fair warning but I do think Bloodborne is a little more challenging than the other soulsborne games. It's still a blast, though :) Nioh is also a little on the difficult side but it has Borderlands type loot, if you're into that. I do recommend Dark Souls (1 or 3) as excellent first entries into the genre, though.
