Echoboy and Valhalla Delay are somewhat similar in design, but very different in sound. I feel like Echoboy has a much more vintage vibe and is quite a bit dirtier. Valhalla Delay has more algorithms/modes and has IMO a faster workflow. I wouldn't replace one with the other, so I wouldn't know which one to get if I could only buy one of them.

The Replika XT update is highly recommended for € 24,50. Valhalla Delay is no doubt one of the best newcomers of 2019 and imo it's worth every cent of the usual price. I have quite a few delays already, so I won't buy Valhalla Delay though. But you really should try the demo.

A seriously powerful delay plugin that will do the majority of what all the other plugins I've mentioned will do, but for no money at all. It's probably missing some tricks. But I doubt anyone could argue this is the best 'bang for buck' of them all.---I've got a shed load more delays. I've got every single Valhalla plugin bar one.

ValhallaDelay Pros - Technology - the potential that the code is far more advanced so it is presumably a 'better sounding' emulation - Some delay types (e.g. reverse, pitch shift) that cannot be achieved by EchoBoy Cons - I don't like the GUI. Not having much fun while tweaking it.

Valhalla is the better general delay plugin. I never thought much of Echoboy, even now. I supplement Valhalla with Replika XT, Tekturon, Repeater and the fantastic Echoleffe. But Valhalla Delay is my default unless I already know I want some other effect better accomplished with one of those other delays.

My Meris Polymoon delay pedal sounds similar to Quartz in Valhalla Delay, with Multiply = 2 sounding like PingPong in Valhalla Delay. Maybe that's just my ears. Or maybe you'd also dislike the Polymoon! All that aside, if someone were to get either Valhalla Delay OR Echoboy, that'll probably take care of 80%+ of their delay needs.

That said, I think both the Valhalla Delay and McDSP EC-300 are excellent plugins. And I do think the GUI is terrible. It's not only ugly but it's not very well done UX-wise either, which makes me not like working with it. I do use Echoboy every now and then, usually the Jr version. But it's been months since the last time.

Apart from Echoboy, I find NI Replika better than Valhalla for the typical delays that you use most of the time. But for very special delay effects there are better plugins anyway, e.g. Fabfilter Timeless. So, for me it's definitely Echoboy but also NI Replika XT but I also like the H-Delay from Waves. |

Many are useful buy my go-to for delay you can just tack on and it will sound like a record are Valhalla Delay and D16 Repeater. Valhalla Delay is the warmer and more "analogue" of the two. Sounds lovely and is super versatile. It also has a "diffusion" parameter that saves me from having to tack on extra reverb to smooth it out.

Have held back from strong promos for EchoBoy and bx_delay 2500. Hoping Valhalla Delay is right up there with the best ! Getting by with: NI_Replika XT, iZoptope_ DDLY, STA Delay, Unfiltered Audio_ Sandman Pro /Byome. Looking forward to early adopter impressions.

ECHOBOY- I use this on one of my returns.Its great and easy to use and adds an analog warmth to your delay. If you're not into that you can filter it out. Vahalla Delay- Its clean and you can get some creative delay affects. UAD EP 34 Echo- I use this on my Vocal and Instrument Busses.Use the preset "Sound So Sweet" its makes everything bright and beautiful and the delay/echo is mild.

Another option would be Valhalla delay. Sounds AMAZING and is way cheaper (don't quote me on this, I'm not sure how much they are at the moment). Edit: Valhalla is 50 while echo boy is 200. I assume it gets cheaper if you have other soundtoys plugins or wait for a sale. because 200 is insane man,don't pay that.

The interface also makes it unnecessarily difficult to figure out how to set delay times and feedback rates, the two most important settings on any delay. Re: Soundtoys, EchoBoy gets a lot of attention on threads like these, but Primal Tap (a Lexicon Prime Time emulation) also has plenty of mojo as well.
