REFUGEE - Refugee (1974) - probably it doesn't belong on the obscure list, but ... one of the best listed here. ROOM - Pre-Flight (1970) - very unique sound and 70's vibe. SPIROGYRA - Bells, Boots and Shambles (1973) - another favorite of mine from prog-folk category. SPRING - Spring (1971) - for mellotron lovers.

High Speed And The Afflicted Man - Get Stoned, Ezy (Bonk Records, 1982) Get Stoned Ezy is no ordinary album. The project was one of several spin-offs from London-based late-70s underground punks Afflicted. Much like Sham 69, Afflicted had, for whatever reason, garnered a very unsavoury right-wing following.

The Five Day Week Straw People - "Self-Titled", one of John Cann's late '60's efforts, along with his other great UK psych/prog groups, Andromeda and The Attack. These groups precede his harder rock ventures in Atomic Rooster and Hard Stuff. Twink - "Think Pink", Twink's excellent solo LP, released after he left The Pretty Things, and before he

UK Danger Money 1979. For my money, the last great Prog album. UK started as a four piece super-group with John Wetton (King Crimson), Bill Bruford (Yes), Alan Holdsworth (Soft Machine) and Eddie Jobson (Curved Air). After an okay debut album, Bruford and Holdworth left and Terry Bozzio (Frank Zappa) joined for this, their (and Prog's) final

Studio Album, 1972. 3.08 | 51 ratings. BUY. Round the Edges. Dark Heavy Prog. Review by proghaven. Guess everyone who collects (or collected) vinyl eventually went through the stage of unhealthy interest to obscure LPs. As for me, I had 40-year experience of collecting vinyl, and went through that stage as well.

So far this is easily my favorite psych release from Poland. CD #1 was recorded in 1972 and 1973, and is comprised of truly excellent heavy psych with a raw and garage-y sound. CD #2 was recorded between 1976 and 1979, and has a very different sound of heavy prog rock with a myriad of influences, including some jazz and funk. The second disc

Sirio 2222 in 1970 (blues-y psych prog) and Ys in 1972 (considered by some to be the basis of progressive metal). They're very different due to the lineup change in 1971. Roberto Righini: not a band, but he produced one single in 1971, Mondo Malato / Non era un sogno.

Rooted in the psychedelic late 60s, prog built up a real head of steam in the early 70s as rock musicians freed themselves of the limitations of four-minute songs and standard time signatures and revelled in the freedom to stretch out a single track over a whole side of vinyl, draw on unlimited musical sources and create music in more complex, and sometimes staggering time signatures.

In the realm of heavy psychedelia, there aren't too many bands that register on the radar of listeners beyond cult devotees, though there's always an exception. Blue Öyster Cult had a handful of radio hits in their time, namely "Godzilla," "Burnin' For You" and "Don't Fear the Reaper" (our No. 29 song of the 1970s).

Heavy Psych - Heavy Prog - Hard Rock - Krautrock - Hard AOR - Rural Rock - Acid Rock - Proto Metal - NWOBHM. If its got loud guitar from 68-82 or just plain heavy...and its fairly obscure.....its probably here. The main focus is the years noted ending at the demise of the NWOBHM but there are some later 80s items I consider throwbacks.

Killing Floor - Out Of Uranus [UK] Insanely talented drumming and progressive work-outs mark Killing Floor's second album as a blues-rock behemoth, with its distinctly British late-60's sound hardened for a new decade craving frenzied riffing and heads-down improvisation over nuanced subtlety. "Soon There Will Be Everything" may hark back to simpler, trippier times but the likes of
