This was made possible by the fact that Russian 7.62 mm Model 1930 Type P cartridges were nearly identical to the German 7.63×25mm Mauser cartridge, although in German service the 9×19mm Parabellum round was more common. Russian cartridges are loaded to much higher pressures

The TT-30 and -33 were chambered in the 7.62×25 Tokarev pistol cartridge, the same that was used by the PPSh-41. It was a hot, hot round that went really fast, and as a result it was also very loud. It was also able to fire the Mauser 7.63x25mm round (think C96), which meant that the Wehrmacht used a lot of captured models during the Second

The Russians copied the 1896 Mauser round essentially exactly, but put it into a much simpler handgun. While somewhat similar to the Colt 1911 design, the Tokarev was a simplification in some ways, and an advancement in others. The big thing about the Tokarev is the original design of both the TT-30 and TT-33 lacked a safety.

10/12/23 - This is a Tokarev TT-33 issued to the Russian military in 1939. It is all matching and has the proper Russian proofs. The original finish rates roughly 50% with obvious spotty wear and areas of pin-pricking throughout. Fitted with period-correct black bakelite grips and comes with a numbered but mismatched magazine. The bore has decent rifling, but there is pin-pricking throughout.

I love the pre war and wartime Russian Tokarev pistols. I have a 1938, 1940, and a 1942 Izhevsk. ... The 30 Mauser for the Broomhandle and 7.62 Tok for the TT-33, though not entirely interchangeable rounds, are similar enough that one could be substituted in for another in a pinch. The Russian TT33 Tokarev only served as the main pistol in the Russian Army for a little over 20 years, which is a pretty short run compared to other pistols of the time like 1911, Hi-Power, P-38, etc. that went on and on in the post war era. ... Location: China. Posts: 45. Tokarev TT-33 is a very bad gun. My reivew of Tokarev TT-33. The Russians design bad pistol, the TT-33 has a very uncomfortable grip with no back strap. Recoil is strong and difficult to shoot single handed and the safety is hard to pull. The Chinese made versions use bad steel compared to Russia and it sucks even more.
