Return of the Ancients is a mod for Subnautica that adds several features to the base game. The mod is known best for adding the Gargantuan Leviathan (known as the Garg by most people) into the game, which has been a highly requested feature since the original fossil for the creature was introduced. The mod started development as early as December 6th 2020. At this point there were only 4

The mod is now called "Return Of The Ancients". Which is fitting as the Leviathan in the mod itself is quite the old sea beast. The reason behind the name change is that over time the Mod became more of a pack. So it made sense to make it something more general instead of being one singular focused add-on.

Short answer is no it's not released yet; it's still in development though it's far more polished now than it ever has been before. In essence it's a massive DLC so while there's a lot of content in it, it'll probably take a few more months before it's ready for the public. There's a discord server that occasionally posts updates and links to

Overview: The De-Extinction Mod brings a current total of 19 new naturally spawning creatures into Subnautica, each fully fleshed out with different behaviors, preferred biomes, PDA entries, and more! Currently there are 11 small edible creatures, 7 larger inedible creatures, and one large, very much inedible leviathan class lifeform.

There are many but just the ones for the Gargantuan Leviathan send shivers down my spine. When first encountering the Gargantuan the PDA says "Warning: Passive bio scan is limited to 500 meters in any direction. Please manually scan the object for a more comprehensive measurement". The thing is so long the PDA can't even scan the entire thing

There unfortunately wasn't much to share since the Subnautica 2.0 update, as our focus lay pretty much exclusively on updating RotA to work on the latest build of the game. As for why we didn't instead continue developing RotA in the Legacy branch, it's primarily because we'd have to update at some point anyway, given Subnautica modding in

But this is just a very unfair moment. It looks like by the time it is released. Subnautica 3 will have been released and fully finished. Also don't miss construe me. I don't mean to insult or belitle the devs working on the mod. I simply want to know why they don't want to release the mod for a beta acceses.

It's been 3 years, most have moved on. The devs have almost all abandoned the project and there is like 3 people left keeping the copium alive. Do yourself a favor and forget about it, all they want to do is spread hype with shitty click bait YouTubers and then feature creep until the end of time. It's just sad tbh.
