As a genral rule I find that Camac harps sound a bit brighter than Lyon and Healy or Salvi. Lyon and Healy harps tend to have a mellower sound. Neither is better, just different. And this is, of course, a generalization. June 5, 2010 at 12:47 pm #159084.

Ogden- warm sound, affordable, adjustable legs that come with harp, relatively light in comparison to Troubadour and Prelude, a great harp BUT 34 strings and still NOT concert tension (afaik) Troubadour VI- I'm biased because this is my harp, but it's concert tension and the same string spacing as L&H pedal harps.

That's my personal interpretation and I've heard others say otherwise. The other big difference is weight - Camac harps are a bit lighter generally, and like Salvis have wheels for easily moving them around a space. Salvi harps are definitely the heaviest, Lyon and Healy are also a little lighter but don't have wheels.

The values for each are: Bad, Okay, Good, Great, Industry's Best. Most of these opinions are based only on the picture, as I've only seen a handful of these harps in person. These are also based on the class of harp. I wouldn't try to compare a lap harp against a pedal harp-they really are apples and oranges.

The pedal harp was well-established by this point (Jeffersonian/Regency era), and I have yet to find a book of music in our vocalist's range from that time that doesn't include accidentals that I just can't hack on the lever harp without excising large sections of pieces, or oversimplifying either the harmonies or melodies (I tried transcribing

Trying to decide which LEVER Harp to purchase? | Harp Column

https://harpcolumn.com/forums/topic/trying-to-decide-which-lever-harp-to-purchase/
I own a Lyon Healy Prelude 40. It's string spacing and tension are described as similar to their pedal harps. It uses pedal harp gut strings and the size of the harp is the same as their Chicago pedal harp sans base which is deeper to accomodate the pedals so the vibrating length of the strings is the same. That said, I absolutely love my harp.

In my research of Lyon and Healy for instance, I have read that sonically, there are really three models of the 47 string concert harps: The Chicago Line, 23 style, and Salzedo style. All the other 47 string harps they make use one of these three configurations of neck and soundbox. I was wondering if the same could be said for salvi, camac

Camac Athena or Salvi Daphne? | Harp Column

Camac pedal harps tend to have a bit more vertical separation between the soundboard and the action in the top octave because the design is similar to the early Erard harps. That might be helpful if you have large hands. One also sits a bit higher at a Camac than with other brands, which I find makes it easier to see the higher octave strings.

Which lever harp to buy | Harp Column

I can, however, vouch for the high quality of Camac harps in general. If you get a chance to try out some Camac lever harps, you might find one to your liking.
