The humour has its edgy moments, for 1959, including a gag which involves a broken bidet. Surrounding the main couple are sturdy comedians such as Carl Reiner, John McGiver (who pronounces gazebo, 'gazbo') and Doro Merande as the housekeeper with a very loud speaking voice. A significant plot point turns on off-screen advice from Alfred Hitchcock.

The Gazebo was directed by George Marshall and written by George Wells. The Gazebo is somewhat slow to start, but just as Elliot's conflict with the blackmailer snowballs out of control, the film becomes funnier as it moves along. The performances are solid, and the characters are fun to watch as they navigate a series of sinister mishaps.
