Tidy up the scan using a bitmap editor, and possibly adjust the colour curve to make the black blacker (rather than the grey colour it's likely to be after scanning). You may not need to adjust the colour, but I always do. Import the image (s) into Inkscape and then Trace Bitmap. You'll get a single complex path.
