5) Leaving rubbish behind. Australia has more world class destinations that are 4WD accessible than many countries do, combined, and yet, some 4WD owners feel its OK to leave their rubbish behind. That might be a can out the window, a cigarette butt, a broken tent, or even a damaged radiator that has been replaced.

I'm with Darian. I wouldn't tow a van on that track. We drove it in 06 and were run off the road by a moron (there seemed to be quite a few of them driving it) flying down a steep narrow single lane section. I shudder to think what would have happened if we had the van in tow. The weather was fine but the track was wet and very slippery.

In every situation, there are a handful of different ways you can recover a bogged 4WD. You could lower the tyre pressures, dig a little, use traction aids, use a snatch strap or winch or just try to idle out of the situation. Rushing creates a panicked environment, and safety often goes out of the window.

This skidding is easy on gravel or dirt or easier than pavement when on wet roads. When people turn sharp in 4WD on dry pavement I'm guessing the transfer case is the thing that demands wheelspin compatibility. I'm not sure but that's my guess. These 4WD systems, differentials, ADDs, and transfer cases are amazing IMO.

4wd does not assist with towing. As long as your vehicle is adequately prepared for towing and the load doesn't exceed its capabilities, 2wd is sufficient for towing. You should use 4wd when you're towing only when facing extreme conditions like mud, snow, or ice. If you're driving on a dry surface and have adequate traction, you shouldn

Hi all, I am new to 4WDing and i have watched a number of videos on how to safely recover a 4WD using a snatch strap. I understand you use this to recover a vehicle that might be bogged in sand/mud. However, i was wondering what if i bump into someone who's car/4wd might have broken down and

TCS is a 2-wheel electronic traction control system on Expedition 2-wheel-drives and Expedition 4-wheel-drives (that are in 2H, 2-wheel-drive mode). In 4A, 4H and 4L modes the system becomes a 4-wheel electronic traction control system. Armed at all four wheels, it guards against drive wheel traction loss.

If you accidentally drive for too long in 4WD mode, you risk damaging your vehicle's suspension and drivetrain. The specifics about what happens to your vehicle's drivetrain depend entirely on several factors, such as the car's overall condition (e.g. if it is well maintained or tyres are not worn down) and the environment at the time.
