By playing to the Atari's strengths, Sheddy has re-written Space Harrier history and retroactively created an outstanding 8-bit port. It's is probably the best homebrew game for the Atari 8-bit released so far this decade. Chris Hutt - 03/09/2012. As suggested, I've sent some alternative screenshots which have been blended for better

Hopefully there aren't too many problems with it... It's suitable for all XL/XE machines with at least 64K RAM. In the .zip is a MaxFlash cartridge image suitable for emulators. Of course you can also use the cartridge image to program a real 8Mbit MaxFlash cartridge to run on a real machine.

The 8-bit Atari version of Space Harrier was not developed in the 80s when the game was popular, but rather in 2011, taken on as a challenge by coder and graphics artist Chris Hutt, along with musician Sal Esquivel. The result is nothing short of amazing, an achievement thought virtually impossible. Naturally the graphics take a bit of a hit

Space Harrier (Atari XE/XL) When Space Harrier levitated into the arcades in 1985 minds (and wads of small change) were blown. Its cash-sucking gameplay was backed up by high-speed 3D graphics processing that dropped jaws across the world. Now the classy old blaster has been ported over to the XE/XL range of Atari 8-Bit microcomputers.

I was there during the Atari 8-bit conversion. Talk about impressive… just as good as Yoomp. For perspective look at the master system and Atari ST, famicom, c64, and game gear. ... BTW, my fave Space Harrier is the one in Yakuza 0! In it, the hero can go to the arcades to play Outrun, Space Harrier and others. Great fun. Really had a blast

While the PCE has a 16-bit VDP (HuC6270).
