Transportation is definitely better in Sons of the Forest compared to The Forest. In the original Forest at most you had zip-lines, turtle shells and boats. In SotF, your transportation options include those still, with the addition of hang gliders, monowheels and golf carts. Someone even made a mod that adds a fuckin electric helicopter.

Can't comment on how normal difficulty compares to The Forest, but I got knocked out / killed only a few times (to the best of my memory) on The Forest in like 80 hours of gameplay (usually to the tough ass mutants). SoTF I'm at like 6 KDs/deaths in 9 hours of play on hard, just from the weakling cannibals.
