If I recall, the 2 capsules v 1 in the slate is the significant difference. Edit - rereading the slate description, yeah - that is the significant difference. You are getting a stereo mic as well with the sphere - hence the higher cost. I use it on overheads during tracking, then vocals on overdubs.
