Even this version of Ryu was no match for Bison as he fought off Guile, Ryu, and even gave both Ken and Ryu a beating before taking them seriously. About Akuma SGS Bison, back in 1994, when Akuma was introduced, he just KOed Bison. He was only meant to be dead in 1999 when a relation chart was released and in 2000 when All About Capcom book was released. So, there's a possibility that he survived and was ambushed like in that trailer (also full of mistakes).

To be honest, whisper it quietly but this season seems pretty well balanced so far. Bison feels like Ed and Rashid when they came out in that's he good but not broken. But now Rashid and Ed are starting to do well in tournaments (Japanese players love Ed). Akuma seems more powerful to me than Bison thus far though.
