He was hiking in NY and saw a deer cut perfectly in half on the trail, but only the back half was left. He said it looked like it was cut with a laser—it was so precise. No blood drops, no jagged cuts or anything. Just the back half of a baby doe, left perfectly in the middle of the trail.

The tree had been a bit of the way up a hill so when it fell there was a small gap between it and the ground. The tree settled so close to her shins she had to twist her feet parallel to the ground to get out. She shared a tent that night and got a ride into town the next day. Took a zero at Red Rooster that day.

They have a weekly "urban" ride they do. Its about a 25 mile ride that traverses everything from downtown city streets, to residential neighborhoods, to parks, nature preserves and other open spaces in the city. Rather than hold the group back, I thought I would practice this ride solo. So I teed it up on Strava and looked at the route.

One night, around 10ish, one of my coworkers/friends and I decided to make a Walmart run. On the way, we're driving down a backroad in the middle of nowhere when my friend slams on the brakes. In front of us is a f*cking monkey wearing a fez, doing a little dance. It then stops dancing and runs into the woods.

Nothing that ever scared me, really. Though the parking lot trail head was known for being a bad place to be after dark. Not only was it a place for local guy on guy action, but also lots of gang activity. The only scary thing that ever happened to me (on the above trail system) when I was a noob rider

The Via Ferrata or "iron roads" are a series of difficult walking trails in the Italian Dolomites that aided troop movements through the area in the First World War. Hikers have to secure themselves to the hills to stop themselves falling off so to ride them on a bike is simply ridiculous. Cristoph Thoresen, the rider in the video, simply

When, on our trail rides, should we introduce scary objects?

For real trail rides, i.e. going out in the desert or the forest, vs just riding in the neighborhood, I've always pushed them going out to get them focused on me and then let them relax going back to the trailer, once we've worn some of the energy off. That mostly works unless you meet a big booger on the way out.

About an hour later, still dark, and I'm on an uphill. Out of the blue something BIG just takes off from right beside me. Had to be a moose or a bear. It was huge and it was gone instantly. But good lord it was close. Must've walked right up on it in the dark. God that was a scary ass morning.

Glad you're ok. Your experiance is just a reminder that the normal every day rides can turn into one hell of a problem. Both of the really bad wrecks I've had happened on one of my typical round trip rides. Nothing speical just the local trails. Flying over the bar sure doesn't feel typical though.

Nothing happened but that dude set my weirdo-radar off right from the start, even before that conversation, so when he brought that up I was immediately on edge. 2 would be accidentally pissing on a rattlesnake. Do you want to be super venomous and scary or do you want to blend in perfectly with the ground? Make up your goddamn mind.

A Reckless Jump From A 60-Foot Slide. At our park, we had a slide that was about 60 feet high. One pipe, and the most popular, went down at an 80-degree angle. It was completely open. You sat down, and slid down the 60 feet within two seconds. Quite a thrill really.

Show your horse that going down the trail is the better option. Ask him to walk off the direction you want down the trail. If he chooses to stop or turn around that's fine, let him make that choice. Then make that choice hard, trot some circles for a few moments then point him back to the trail and slow him to a walk.

Scary moment on the trail. First time coming across a bobcat on the trail. I saw them run across the trail and down the mountain ahead of me so I stopped to record the sound. The sound was getting fainter until they turned and got too close for comfort. Bro don't cut the film right when the bobcat enters the frame. Filmmaking 101!
