It does enlarge the frame of the 3ds, but like the 3ds xl, the extra size will feel good in your hands. Installation is a little tricky, but instructions are included, and several YouTube videos also go over it.

Half expecting this experience, I decided to order the NINTENDO 3DS CRYSTAL CLEAR HARD PROTECTIVE SHELL CASE by QUBITS, sold here on Amazon for half the price of the CTA Digital Crystal Case, just to compare the two. The QUBITS case is much better than the old version of this Crystal Case, and has many features of the revised Crystal Case.

the Gamestop New 3DS XL starter kit comes with a hard-shell case, not sure if its better then the Hori one but its pretty decent. My Hori TPU case fits fine (though I had to trim some excess plastic off the top screen cover before it would fit snugly). My problem is that it feels a bit too heavy and bulky for my taste.
