However Leon, being the naive boy that he is, falls for it head over heels and rides off immediately to play the knight in shining armor. I do think the remake not leaving Ada's empty gun on the floor for Leon to check is a bit of a missed opportunity in clarifying her feelings for Leon. Anyway, props to the writers.

Resident evil 2 has two different scenarios for both characters (4 total), A and B. Ada just falls on one of them and not the other. First two resident Evil games did not strictly followed a storyline. Games only take some things from both scenarios as canon and not everything. So basically it can be explained as that fall wasn't canon.

After you turn on the elevator switch and obtained the flashbang, toss it on the zombies to blind them. If one of the three zombies doesn't get blinded, you have enough time to shoot it until it gets stunned. Alternatively, get grabbed and escape using the flashbang. Ada's head was floating above her shoulders with a gap. I think you can do that by using a trainer/mod to model swap into Ada (although she'll probably have static face animation during cutscenes/other encounters). Get a look into the resi modding forums for a better answer tho.
