A schmitt trigger is a circuit that sets when a high voltage is present, it fires. The circuit remains set until a much lower voltage is presented at the input. When the schmitt trigger is fired it discharges the integration capacitor thru the diode and the cycle can start again. At the output of the integrator there is a sawtooth waveform

it would even work with onboard sound, you probably need to send it through a voltage divider or potentiometer. to get it to line level. (around 1V) some pcs even with just one "audio out" jack can be configured so it becomes a line input. 1.

Could someone explain how this EXTREMELY simple 4069 ... - Reddit

Rene Schmitz VCO: The integrator basically ramps up the voltage on its output by charging the 2n2 capacitor until the output voltage is high enough to trigger the schmitt trigger, discharging the cap instantly by shortening it out through the diodes, which starts the cylce anew. CV controlls a log current sink, which sets how fast the cap is

Added "sync" to René Schmitz' 4069 VCO and it's awesome

Added "sync" to René Schmitz' 4069 VCO and it's awesome. Probably only interesting to beginners like me or people who have breadborded the circuit and want to add sync. My circuit is very crude, if I hadn't run out of space on my PCB I'd have added some sort of schmitt trigger and monostable multivibrator to shape short, sharp trigger pulses

Breadboarded this simple VCO with +/-12V supply. Frequency range is nice, not sure about 1V/octave tracking. Next step would be to make a pcb for it.

I've found the Rene Schmitz 4069 to be a cheap model system. It's a schmitt trigger and inverter, flipping an integrator cap; so we get a sawtooth by pushing constant (calibrated) current into the system. It was modified and made into a video walkthrough by Moritz Klein. Very helpful for newbies. Screenshot attached from his video showing my

berrmal64 • 3 yr. ago. I made that same module a couple years ago, it was my first VCO too. I ended up putting thermal paste between the flat faces of the exponential converter transistors, and zip tying them togethere, and I can generally get about 3 octaves of acceptable linearity out of it (although I haven't messed with it in a while).

Schematics. / VCO 4069 By Rene Schmitz. The circuit presented here is aimed towards simplicity and ease of construction. It can be an addition to a modular system, used in a standalone fashion or as a test oscillator for your bench. I found it interesting to use the gates of a 4069 CMOS inverter instead of opamps. Sort of a VCO complement to

You can also build simple square/pulse VCOs using 555/7555s, or 4093/40106 as astables, if you need something REALLY simple. (I'm not sure about exponential conversion for something like these though.)
