The circuit presented here is aimed towards simplicity and ease of construction. It can be an addition to a modular system, used in a standalone fashion or as a test oscillator for your bench. I found it interesting to use the gates of a 4069 CMOS inverter instead of opamps. Sort of a VCO complement to the WASP filter elsewhere on this site.

Breadboarded this simple VCO with +/-12V supply. Frequency range is nice, not sure about 1V/octave tracking. Next step would be to make a pcb for it.

berrmal64 • 3 yr. ago. I made that same module a couple years ago, it was my first VCO too. I ended up putting thermal paste between the flat faces of the exponential converter transistors, and zip tying them togethere, and I can generally get about 3 octaves of acceptable linearity out of it (although I haven't messed with it in a while).

Added "sync" to René Schmitz' 4069 VCO and it's awesome. Probably only interesting to beginners like me or people who have breadborded the circuit and want to add sync. My circuit is very crude, if I hadn't run out of space on my PCB I'd have added some sort of schmitt trigger and monostable multivibrator to shape short, sharp trigger pulses
