In Ragnarok Online the most important aspect of gearing are "Cards", each monster has a unique card drop and each card has a unique effect. Pre renewal MVP is more focused on setup. LK and Champ is the go to MVP classes. If warp is not convenient, then LK is prob better, otherwise Champ is better if warp is more accessible. PVM LK is perfectly fine, you trade some efficiency (have to use more items) for flexibility. Pecopeco also means you go between kills faster and negate attack

You want multiple copies of the BG armor set, not even for different cards, but just for the hell of it - they weigh 0 and are free anyway.

Stat resets are only 300k by time you get to SL, so you can start off with agi/str until you have the core bolter skills. Just be prepared to sit every now and then, as the lower level sp pools are pretty bad. Its definitly not the most optimized class to start with, but still plently of fun. 1.
