A State All Road 4130 would probably work out around the same price as a restored 26er mountain bike but have disc brakes (not good ones but easy upgrade) and a lot more options for tires (can do 650b and/or 700c on much more modern wheelsets), rack mounting etc. Probably not available affordably in Europe unfortunately, not sure if there is an equivalent there.
