The first step of sound decreasing when it comes to Sabian best to worst compare is the AA series. B8X is the second biggest transition. Although the AA is made out of the same material as the top-notch series, the sound decreases. The same thing is with B8X, only here the material is changed, and it falls out under a whole different price range.

But thats it as far as the AAX line is concerned. However, the Sabian HHX Evolution crash, HHX Power Crash, & HHXtreme Crash put anything the AAX crash line has to offer to shame. Also, the HHX groove ride and the HHX Raw Bell Dry Ride is GREAT. I also like thier 20" China. Not too much experience with the HHX line Hi hats.

Go hit some cymbals, play what speaks to you. I have stuff from five different cymbal makers hung even as we speak. The only things I own that are consistent in series are a pair of crashes. I play some very pricey hand hammered right next to some Chinese stuff. Hit some cymbals. See what you like.

The foot-chick sound is as assertive as slamming a car door; open and closed sounds are metallic and midrange heavy. HHX Splash cymbals come in 10″ and 12″ sizes. They're a good match as a pair, with a nice interval between them. The 10″ is quite bright - as we expected - but the 12″ has a lot of "kuh" in the sound.

Start within the HHX line - the Complex are fantastic. As someone else mentioned, "matching" Sabian crashes across lines can be tricky, but it's doable. For years I used a 16" and 18" AAX Xplosion crashes with an 18" HHX Evolution crash. I'd also recommend having someone else play the cymbals while you listen from across the room.

His ability to command a cymbal or a drum is simply awe-inspiring. His latest collaboration with Sabian is the HHX Anthology which is being branded as "what's old is new" and we tend to agree with this. There are clearly some tones indicative of vintage Turkish cymbals but there's enough bell sound and openness to work in modern settings.

Especially when compared to an HHX and especially a Legacy. They tend to have a medium-bright attack with a darker undertone and they do sustain for a while. They are also some of the loudest cymbals I have ever played. The 17" Artisan crash is probably the loudest cymbal in my arsenal. I have not played the HHX Complex crashes.
