If you don't need hardware and want some shells with top-notch hardware then consider the PDP Concept Series. Similar to the Pearl Roadshow. A kit I'd put up against the Pearl Roadshow series is the Ludwig Accent (5-piece) kit. The Ludwig Accent's build resembles that of the Pearl Roadshow with slight variations in shell depth and color.

If you're dead set on buying a new kit, then yes a Pearl Roadshow is a great choice. It was the kit I first started out on. The hardware it came with wasn't half bad (some of it I still use today) and the drums sound good if you replace the heads with higher end ones. The included cymbals are trash but they're fine for starting out.

Definitely worth a shot for the cost of some new heads. You could also kinda do what I did and trade it in for a Pearl Midtown (although I traded in for a bigger Mapex kit), it's smaller, easier to get to gigs and sounds really good. Lots of other bop kits will have similar advantages around the £400 mark e.g. Ludwig Breakbeats. 1.

I believe the forum series has been discontinued, so only the Roadshow is available anyway. Go with the Roadshow. Prices are good, but the quality level isn't up to an Export, so don't expect it to take too much abuse before things break. If you're just gonna keep it at home for practice and the occasional jam, it should be good if it isn't abused.

I've had a roadshow 5 pc for a while, replaced the heads, used my own cymbals, really like the sound. was looking around for a 4 PC kit for portability without breaking the bank. settled on the roadshow jazz, with an extra cymbals stand and Wuhan western b20 cymbals, new heads (remo, Evans). should suit me perfectly. the drums sound really good

Roadshows come with garbage Pearl cymbals. Exports come with no cymbals or with Zildjian Planet Zs. Roadshows have tom mounting hardware that screws directly to the shell while Exports have Optilock suspension system. Roadshows are poplar while the Export have some asian mahogany (lauan).
