These are the very strings I use, so I will stock up when they're on sale. Usually it's a 3-pack of strings, or a 5-pack. Occasionally, they'll put on sale 12-packs. I've gotten a 12-pack of XL110s for $40, and a 12-pack of EJ16s for $50. So that's like $3.34 for each set XL110s and $4.17 for each set of EJ16s.

Re: New D'addario NYXL strings. I've had one of the demo sets on my strat for a month or three now. I think they're excellent. I don't know if I'd pay $12 for a set, but that goes for any strings. I get my XL's for $3.79, so I can't imagine that these NYXL's would last three times as long as a regular set.

NYXL's are advertised to be stronger, with midrange punch. I don't know about the strength, but I seldom break strings anyway. They do have a midrange punch, and I don't really like it that much. Probably good for aggressive metal players, but I don't like the sound for rock, Americana, blues, and subtler playing.
