Red Flag #4: You Only Ever Talk About Medication. To get a full understanding of your mental health, sessions with your psychiatrist should not solely focus on your medication. There are lots of factors that affect your mental health—your social life, your living situation, relationships, family, work, even the weather or the time of year.

Yes, your psychiatrist is being rude. Which besides being poor behavior, is downright dangerous when she makes her patients feel they can't talk to her about their emotional state. Bad all around. I've been to a few of those. As for being 15-20 min. late, that seems to be chronic in that profession.

Now I'm confused; She asked me things like how I'm doing and how my anxiety affects me, and I'm never sure what to say. The first time I saw her she also said I don't have ADHD and I'm not psychotic; Two things that my previous psychiatrist branded me with in middle school. So she questioned me about anxiety, and I'm not sure what to tell her.

Your current psychiatrist seems to have lost her clinical perspective. Self-disclosure by a therapist is typically used to make a point or facilitate movement in therapy — not to play "I Can Top That". She is not likely to listen to you when she feels her stories are more important.

It was my psychiatrist. He was calling to clarify a refill request, but being freakishly perceptive, he asked a few indirect questions and quickly got me to confess I was depressed. And then he said, "I assume you're safe though.". I knew what he meant by "safe.". And more importantly, I knew that he did not actually assume so.

Seeing a psychiatrist for the first time: Know your family history. Try to learn as much as you can about your family's medical and psychiatric history. In some families, mental health is a taboo topic and not openly discussed. Try to think if there is one person who may be easier to talk to and ask them. Knowing your family history before

Yeah, I can see why. Phone calls stress me out so much. But you don't need to tell the secretary any details. You can tell them that you need a phone appointment with the psychiatrist and if they ask why, tell them the psychiatrist told you to do this if your state gets worse and that is happening right now, but you'd prefer to talk about the details with your psychiatrist.

Advice. I had my first ever appointment with a psychiatrist today. I was so nervous and anxious but also extremely excited to get help. I was excited to tell someone my problems and get feedback. However, that didn't happen at all. Right off the bat he seemed so fake towards me. Like he was reading from a script.

That psychiatrist also stopped seeing me because I was doing a lot of drugs in 2020, including Molly, Acid, Ketamine, and other RC's which pretty much had me manic all the time. During that time was when I felt the most productive, felt like I could actually complete day-to-day tasks without struggle, and was able to keep a train of thought.
