Short video because I just opened two of these tapes to make a mixtape but found a little surprise. In today's video: synchronized spooling with a BIC!

For the most part I have not had an issue with the Sony HF, except for 1 earlier version (some 80s vintage) that needed to be relubed on a couple tapes. Other than that one issue all have been good performers (once those troubled ones were relubed they too were good).

My wife left this morning to head over to her parents house and spend the night tonight. This gives me uninterrupted time to spend with my Sony TC-K850ES. I decided to come up with a challenge today. I purchased a great big box of Sony HF Type I new blank cassette tapes a while back for cheap. I had a set I found at my Goodwill prior to these

The XL I-S is slightly better at rendering very high levels of bass/warming up a recording, but for most music, this can do a faithful 1-1 of the source, without a question asked. Dolby is recommended for this tape. But unlike the XL I-S does not like to be as saturated from my observations here.

Problem is, the higher retail price of the Sony compared to it's competitors just does not justify the worse sound quality, and if I were you I would get one of these two instead. If you can find a cheap NOS auction though of many of these, it might be more worth it. Aesthetics: 7/10. Build Quality: 7/10.

I recently bought some from the 1992-94 gen, 1995-96 gen, and 1996-97 Sony HiFi. Are the HiFi the same as the HF? It seems Sony dropped the HF name in that generation. Jan 9, 2019 #4 V. VintageS ... If you look at my comparison you can see this time FE and HF having the same tape color and D is different. From top HF, FE, D:

IMO, the 1986-87 Sony HF is the best HF ever (my actual measures confirmed it too). Compared to the 1985 one, the tape is of a slightly darker brown colour, it can take about 1dB more level (MOL is around +7dB VU or +3dB DIN), almost 1dB lower hiss, and it can take a bit more treble (just a tiny bit less than HF-S!) so that treble details would

The company now uses the Walkman brand to market its portable audio and video players as well as a line of former Sony Ericsson mobile phones. Sony utilized a related brand, Discman, to refer to its CD players. It dropped this name in the late 1990s. SONY HF - 1995 - EU

These are Sony HF cassette tapes. My problem is that the tape will play for a short amount of time and then stop. I have tried using a different cassette deck (in fact 4 different cassette decks). I have tried cleaning solution to clean tape heads. I have tried transferring the tape reels into a new shell.
