This teardrop trailer is known as a foamie, because it's made of foam coated in poor man's fiberglass, which is a layer of canvas glued onto the foam with tight-bond glue and covered with a

The brakes actually stop the trailer pretty well. Better than I expected. Acceleration seems fine too. The limitation is actually the trailer. It's got a solid axle on pillow blocks. No suspension…so when I hit a manhole cover or small pothole at speed, the trailer will sometimes come off the ground an inch or two…so slower speeds are safer.

Location: Phoenix, AZ. Mar 12, 2022, 7:23 AM quote. Meet Tom, known as sconner60123 on MV, and tour his amazing custom-built micro-teardrop trailer for his vintage 1962 Vespa VBB! Tom says, "On its face, the tiny Vespa trailer is little more than featherweight foam, fabric, and a whisper of paint. But if you look with your heart instead of your

The frame is aluminum and with the wheels and axles installed weighs just 26 pounds. The total weight of the completed trailer is approx. 170 pounds. The walls are 1" thick extruded foam covered in poor man's fiberglass. I towed it for the first time today with my 1962 Vespa VBB.

DIYers have their own sense of doing things with ingredients that for you and me may sound foolish to begin with. Teardrop trailers, besides the size, have to be durable and stable.Throwing the two aspects out of the park, Thomas Burick has created a micro teardrop trailer, to go with his 1962 Vespa, from foam topped with a sheet of homemade fiberglass.

The rough size of the teardrop will be 7'L x 3.4'W x 2.5' (ish)H. I will be pulling the trailer with my 1962 Vespa VBB, 150cc 2-stroke with a 4-speed manual transmission. Pics below. The trailer has to be featherweight (literally)...so hoping to do the frame out of aluminum or small diameter steel square stock and the body out of 1" thick foam

The team from Playing with Sticks is here to give us the lowdown. It turns out foam has a lot of advantages, including being lightweight, an incredible insulator, more water-resistant than plywood, and incredibly versatile. According to the video, people can build a road-worthy foam teardrop trailer for as little as $1,500!

It's a custom built teardrop trailer designed to be 8′ in length, 5′ in width, and 5′ in height on the interior. Outside it's length is actually 11′ 8″ and it's overall height is 6′ 6″. It weighs an estimated 750 lbs and has a 2,000 lbs axle on it for support. The flooring was built using fir plywood.

I hadn't, but it's a term I was introduced to by Thomas Burick who built one and tows it with, of all things, a 1962 Vespa scooter. A foamie is a trailer made of foam and often coated with "poor man's fiberglass.". That was another term I had never heard of. But the result is a small, 170-pound teardrop-style trailer that Burick tows

Adventurer. I built this cap from Owens Corning FOAMULAR XPS. Covered inside and out with PMF (poor mans fiberglass), painted glued canvas. I made two rear panels, one with a door and window the other as a clamshell style hatch. It's light weight and has a removable bunk inside and a roof fan. Cost to build $2k.

To make it work, you will need to buy a pre-built cargo trailer frame. Then you build the foamy camper according to the dimensions on the trailer. Because you have to take into account the wheels and axles, etc., some wood is used to create the foundation for the foam camper. It is also easier to attach the foam to the wood than it is to attach
