Comparision between three types of 12ax7 on mc c2300 preamp firs genelex gold lion then psvane and last you listen the tung sol gold pin

Location: Germany. The manufacturer of my amp recommends the Gold Lions. However, I am not sure whether he has tested the Psvane as well. They are tempting. I do have ECC82 Psvane in my Unison Simply Italy and I have to say they are gorgeous. Maybe someone has had a chance to listen to Psvane EL84 tubes. zeitlos, Jan 5, 2020.

The only current production 12AX7s I liked in the C2300 were the Psavanes, which were very balanced across the spectrum. These are good tubes, IMO. Gold Lions had really good tone but seemed rolled a bit on top. The New Sensor Tung-Sols were just OK; Mullards too fat.

Now as for power tubes I have new production JJ, Gold Lion, Tung Sol and the Psvane Ti. NOS power tubes GEC KT88 and KT 66, Tungsol 6550 3 hole , and SED Winged C . And about 6-7 reciter tubes , mostly NOS . So here's my recommendation. Driver tubes on a budget , Tungsram NOS , Or Tesla ( nos ) . Telefunkens are the best .

10. Tung Sol 12AX7/ECC803S Gold Pin - As with some others, this seems to be the same tube as the standard pin version. This is another tube, like the Gold Lion and Mullard, that either works wonders or not at all. In some amps, it was just too dark sounding. In others, it had the perfect amount of upper-mid bite. Another of my favorites.

The Genalex Gold Lion 12AX7 is smooth and is an incredible tube. It will increase the performance and definition of your amplifier. This tube has a very broad mid-range that is pleasing to the ear, but isn't boxy or flat. The detail in the note response is rich, tight, and articulate.

And this, of course, includes EH, Tung Sol, JJ, Gold Lion etc.. They have been around for a while, their tubes are well built and proven. Some of the Chinese are starting to get there, I really like the Shuguang Treasure series, I use their CV181-Z as my driver tubes in my amps, those are 6SN7 equivalents.

I have the Gold Lion tubes in the output of my C2500 and did not notice any change in level compared to the original McIntosh tubes. The output has a slightly softer sound but the details are still there. The Gold Lion tubes make high frequencies sound smooth and detailed with good midrange and they bring out vocals very well.

I was able to take the Graham Slee Era Gold V out of the listening chain because the C2300 phono stage is so good. My newish Era Gold V is now for sale. The next step up would be the C1000 (C500 is close to the C2300 in sonics/features), but I don't think I will ever achieve that level of audiophile-dom. Enjoy your C2300, it will serve you well.

Highs have a nice, clean shimmer to them. In comparison the Tung Sol KT120 sound "dry" in the midrange and more electronic. For reference, I have used Tung Sol KT120, Psvane KT88 greyglass, Penta Labs KT88SC, Gold Lion KT88, EH KT88, EI KT90 type2, GEC KT66, Treasure 6CA7, EH 6CA7, Mullard EL34 xf2, 6P3S-E, GE 6L6GC and others.

I guess I need to give Jim a call. The Gold Lions do sound pretty good though. I think having good strong Telefunken 12AX7 smooth plates and Siemens ECC801s (12AT7) signal tubes helps a lot with the sound. I still want to try the Psvane KT-88 from Grant fidelity at $166 a quad. Supposed to sound less harsh than the Russian tubes.

I have been on the KT88-6550 search for a few years with a Mcintosh MC60. Penta, Psvane, JJs,TungSol reissues, and NOS TungSol 3 hole grey plates,, Sophia Electric KT88s and now some new Gold Lions. I have some hope that the GLs will, after burn in provide me with accurate timbre and send the right signal to the subwoofer amps in my ZU Def 4s.

My best sound comes from using both types in two citation amplifiers with two sets of speakers. SED 6550's into Wharfedale w70's for that colored, rich sounding midrange. SED kt88's into norman model 10's for deep bass and extended highs. I didn't know SED made tubes anymore. Steve.

1,792 posts. 03-28-2013 at 05:19pm. For cheap tubes that made a big improvement in my humble C220, try Mullard reissues. I paid $40 for each matched pair. They sound smoother, are quieter, and are better at soundstaging and imaging than the stock tubes. Check out the McIntosh forum on the audio circle site for more on tubes.

Sovtek is a brand (not factory) and the new Sovtek's are made by Reflector Corp., I've understood. Other brands from Reflector in 21st century are (according to the different sources) Electro Harmonix, Gold Lion, Mullard, Svetlana S-Logo and Tung-Sol. Obviously quite decent manufacturer, that Reflector, huh?

Tung-Sol EL-34B vs Genalex Gold Lion KT77 for Cayin A100T Integrated Tube Amplifier. ... I get my Gold Lion 12Au7s and GZ34 rectifier tubes from him.. The cryogenically treated tubes from Cryoset last a real long time. They start off and stay quiet! ... would suggest you try psvane gray glass EL34s. Very musical, with an open and airy top end.
